I got my immigrant visa on my passport after five days of my interview. Now when I went to pay the green card payment $220 it says my alien registration number is wrong. I got 8 digits of number and A in the beginning. A********. It says i have to put a zero after A. I’m very confused.

You don't need to put a zero just enter the number following the "A" exactly as it is

I did and it still says wrong alien registration number.

If it needs the extra digit to make 9 digits it (0) should work.

i can’t recall exactly how we did this, but did you leave out the A and just enter the digits, starting with 0?

No I entered A and then the 8 digits. I’m gonna call USCIS tomorrow let’s see what they say about it.

Despite that they specifically tell you to use a zero in front? Ok then. I’m guessing that’s what the rep will tell you too.

There's a hint on the page that says

Quote

Enter the A-Number without the "A" (for example, 123456789). If the A-Number has fewer than 9 digits, insert one or more zeros (0) before the number to create a 9-digit entry (for example, enter 001234567 instead of 1234567).

The A-number has to be 9 digits. Do not type A in front of it, if yours has 8 digits just add a 0 in front to make it 9.
