Hello All,

Has anyone traveled outside of the united states with an approved Advance Parole (AP I-131) while the Adjustment of Status (AOS) documentation is still pending? If so, did you have any issues or concerns at the point of entry when returning to the United States?

I did, several times, not a problem at all :)

Just keep in mind that you, most likely, will be pulled to a secondary on your way back. So, if after arrival  you have another flight within US, you should give it at least 2-3 hours of layover between flights.

good luck and have a safe trip!!!

Just make sure the airline you are using is familiar with the AP card.  My husband and I went to Cancun mexico a few years a go when he was traveling with the AP card . Frontier Airlines in Mexico would not issue him a boarding pass for his flight back as they told him he needed to show a green card.   This was in 2013 and the Combo cards were fairly new at the time.  I would think by now the airlines would all be familiar with them.

You are welcome :)

You need your International passport, AP and Marriage Certificate in case if you changed the last name. I also always had NOA1 of my I-485 with me, traveling.. Had never been asked to present it, but  - just in case.

About air lines -  I used Delta, KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, Air Canada - all of them are aware of what AP stands for. So many people now travel with EAD/AP, so I believe the most airlines are familiar already with this stuff. I was even told by Air France - they don't care how your document looks and what it is as long as it lets you get into the country and says "issued by USCIS".

Of course, my biggest concern was to get out of my home country with EAD/AP - I wasn't positive they had an idea how it works.. But I was surprised they knew :)

As long as your I-485 is pending and there are no issues with your application - you should be fine, traveling abroad.

Just again - remember you would need  a longer layover between flights because,  actually, you can be "double-checked" at any stop. I was "interviewed"   in Munich. Yes, it happened just once, but there is always a chance of that, so I was glad I had more than an hour layover there :)

hi,

i plan on using my AP card to Nigeria from the US with Air Italy (meaning i will have a layover in italy to and from Nigeria).

What would you advise i carry along? How do i know if Air Italy is familiar with the AP card.  I am worried I may get queried or even denied a boarding pass in Italy on my return

I called their customer care as well and i was given this same reply  ------- ' they don't care how your document looks and what it is as long as it lets you get into the country and says "issued by USCIS".

Thanks

Hi.

Can't really tell you if Air Italy familiar with EAD/AP card. i'm pretty positive they should be. But just in case - get this Guide printed and carry this with you, traveling. just in case.

https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2017-Nov/carrier-information-guide-english.pdf

p.p. 43-44

Usually I had my EAD/AP card, Marriage License (due to different last name on the card and in my passport) , Passport of course and NOA-1 of my I-485 pending (have never been asked to present it though).

you should be fine .

Have a safe trip!
