How long does it take the USCIS to start reviewing the I-130?

Hello all. Sorry if this is posted somewhere.

On August 12, I submitted the I-130. About two weeks later, they sent me a receipt saying they recieved it on August 17.

I checked my status online today (10.19.2017) and it is still 'received'.

My question is: when does the USCIS start reviewing applications?

Thanks

It takes as long as it takes and there will only be one update at the end, saying approved, asking for more required documentation or (rarely) denied.  Generally an adjudicator will spend less than 30 minutes on your case.  The rest of the time it's in storage.

Adding to this, the waiting times can be wildly inconsistent. A coworker who filed the same month as me (February) to the same location (Nebraska) is still waiting for his NOA2, whereas I received mine in only one month. No clue why mine somehow got shuffled to the top, but I thank God for the good fortune.

Ah, sounds like it's based on luck? Or maybe you filed for like a spouse or child and they filed for someone else?

There are many factors at play and if you look at VisaJourney you'll find all kinds of wild and crazy theories based on a just a few anecdotes (some countries get approve faster, longer marriage == less wait). Don't focus too much on any of these theories, since all these other factors are all of your hand and obsessing about them will only drive you crazier.

Currently, the Texas Service Center is processing applications received as of April 2017 according to VisaJourney. From your timeline it looks like you've submitted on August 2017, this would indicate that you have at least another 3-4 months of waiting.  You can access information about timelines here.
