Can I travel anywhere whithin the US with my K1 visa expired?

Hi guys

I am a K1 visa, alreafy married, already filed for AOS and my K1 visa expires shortly. Can I travel anywhere withing the US while I wait for the AOS?

Should I just show my passport with the K1 visa expired?

You are safe to travel inside the US. Just don't leave the states until you get your AOS. Your best bet though may be to take your Social Security Card information and use that to get either a state issued ID or a drivers license if you don't already have it. Easier to explain than the passport.

For clarification, your K1 expired the moment you set foot in US territory. You can travel anywhere within the US.

 

If you still have time left, from the 90 days

If your 90 days are up and you have NOT filed for AOS, try to stay clear from any road checkpoints (near TX, AZ, etc) to avoid having a bad time (not the end of the world if they stop you and you are out of status,  but it will not be a pleasant experience).

You are good to travel any were within the states .all you need is a driving license or any valid id

As above - if you look on your K1 visa it will say 'Valid Entry = 1'. Meaning the minute you stepped foot in the US using your K1 that one entry was taken.

 

For clarification again - you can travel within the United States using a Drivers License or another form of identification. You cannot leave the US without Advanced Parole which you should apply for while completing your AOS as there is no extra cost while submitting it with an I-485 application.

You are safe to travel anywhere within the USA no problems at all. Just make sure you carry your passport and your NOA1 from AOS.

There's no nobody sitting at the state border waiting to check your status. You can just drive between states without a problem. Unless you have a police contact, there will never be a need to show your ID. But like someone said, getting a state ID card is a good way to go here in your situation.

You never know when or where you'll encounter them, so shut them off before they have a chance to make your life miserable.

You live in Michigan I take it from your profile so you don't know. But down on the SW border there are CBP checkpoints on major highways in land and away from the border. They will make you stop and question you no matter who you are, and I know that from personal experience. 

 

So it is ALWAYS better to have what you need no matter what.

Makes sense with illegal crossings in the south. Yes I'm from Michigan. Never see that here or really anywhere I guess except where you're talking about. But if it happens, they better be prepared.

I made a copy of our marriage certificate and my wife's NOA1. She keeps that with her passport when we travel. Now that she has her EAD/AP card, it's probably unnecessary to travel with that much paperwork but it certainly can't hurt if you're ever questioned by inland CBP officers.

You'll have seen the raids on sanctuary cities earlier this week. We got off the train at a central SF Bart station to see a bunch of DHS police hanging around - I didn't know about the raids at the time but I'm guessing it was part of it and that they were looking for .... whatever they look for to decide they need to ask for papers. My friend and I are both immigrants, but both being fair-haired and blue-eyed we weren't stopped or questioned...
