Where is my Green Card nr?

I'm trying to check into my flight home to the US and it asks me for my Green Card number but I'm not sure which one of all the numbers it is? I have tried to google it but it gives me different confusing answers. Is it the 8 digit number next to the I-551 on the back or is it somewhere in the coded part at the bottom on the back?

I don't know how "old" your card is, so don't know yours looks different...but mine (from 2005) is on the front of my card under "A#" at the very top.

They are normally 8 or 9 digits long.  I'm assuming they are asking for your Alien Reg. number, not the literal card production number.

It looks like the newer ones are labelling the A# as "USCIS#"  on the front of the card (above the date of birth).  I found this example online for the newer ones:

I managed to figure it out. And it is actually on the back of mine. It is the case number I had at MSC. On the back of mine there a wide stripe that looks shiny and it looks like it has nothing on it. Then you tilt it a bit and you can see my photo, name and card #.

Can I ask how old your card is?  Just curious which version you have.

It will be two years in March :)

Cool---mine is the version from 2005...and looks like it's ready to fall apart.  Here's what they used to look back then (found this example online too)...the new ones are so much prettier!!

Cool! That part they have at the front that starts with C1 is what is now on the back of the new ones. I learned today that C1 means that you are a permanent resident and C2 is some kind of commuter green card whatever that is.

That's interesting.  The back of mine has the big black wide strip like yours, and really not much else---I tried tilting it like you did but all I see is the tiniest photo of the Statue of Liberty when I do that.  Other than that, on the back of my card there is really nothing else except the card production/serial number.

Surely it is like the sample in post 2 and the number is under USCIS number? Ours are from late 2013 and are like that, and I believe they have not been updated yet. You shouldn't have to go into awkward positions and tilt to different light  to get an A number...

The A number is at the front. The green card number I was looking for was in the back :)

I see what you did, my strip has the original receipt number as card production number above the A number (reproduced on the front). As someone else said, when they ask for green card number it is surely your alien/permanent resident number they want rather than the card production number? In any case it is always the A number we fill in when we travel back. Or did they somehow ask you for both?

They asked for green card number so I wrote the number mentioned under Green card number on my green card. Website accepted it. It does say to fill it out at the best of your knowledge which I did so :P

Ok...I've re-entered the US 8 or 9 times since we got our green cards and never been asked for the card production number. Just the A number, however phrased. Interesting.
