My husband had his interview 2 and a half weeks ago and they didn't ask to see them but that doesn't mean they won't for you. You are supposed to bring those documents to the interview and I would suggest bringing exactly what they listed in the letter they sent for for the interview.

Thank u so much for replying.

They just asked for marriage certificate and some other documents but they didnt indicate whether they want original or not. I miss placed originals and couldn't find them. I called uscis and they said unless they ask for original, you dont need to bring original. Now i dont know what to do. I have copies of everything but couldn't find original.

if you got married here , you could ask for a certified copy from the clerk's office where you were married. Usually that is pretty fast. And at least it is a certified copy by the issuer.

  • sending I130 05/16/2007
  • cheque is cashed on 06/11/2007
  • NOA1 in mail 06/13/2007 (who said 13 is badluck )
  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?

  • 08/07/2007 Case received by NVC and case number assigned :))

  • 08/13/2007 DS3032 and AOS bill were generated

  • 08/14/2007 Emailed choice of agent ...i'm so curious when they will accept it...hopefully soon

  • 08/21/2007 DS3032 and AOS fee bill arive in mail

  • 08/27/2007 paid AOS fee bill
  • 8/28/2007 DS3032 choice of agent accepted
  • 9/3/2007 IV fee bill generated

If you have the time, you can go to the clerk's office or request,  via mail, copy of the marriage cert or a certified copy , i think is what it is called.  The requirements to secure a copy is normally published on their office's website so you do not even have to speak to anyone;  , might need notary work for the request.  Am inclined to think you have submitted a copy to USCIS in the past so a copy will be fine.

If there is no way to bring your marriage certificate original, bring a copy of it. Also bring any other government'-issued documents that show you two as a married couple such as your tax returns, if you have children born in the us, their birth certificate showing you both as the child's parents, etc. Whatever you can use to demonstrate you are a married couple and the usual proofs for bona-fide marriage status.....that is the best you can do.
The worst thing can happen is that they will make "decision cannot be made" decision and will ask you to bring the original marriage certificate. You can come back and get approved once you show them the original.

Relax, this is not a race.

Though highly unlikely, if they ask to see the original marriage certificate and if you don't have it, RFE decision shouldn't surprise you. They clearly say in the interview letter "if copies of a document were submitted as evidence with your N400 application, the originals of those documents should be brought to the interview".

If I were you I'd start the process to get that marriage certificate right away, even if they don't ask it during this interview, you'll never know when you'd need it in the future. Good luck this Saturday!

The only thing I would think of is that you are applying at 3 yrs rule, based on marriage with US Citizen so the marriage certificate is essential to what qualifies you.

Although you may have submitted a copy with your prior documentation, the officer has no way of knowing whether prior reviewers of your case have actually seen the original - hopefully in your file, they annotated it as such.

(Just thinking about what their comeback may be)
