Adj of Status - in transit at USPS

Hi All,

We sent in our Adjustment of Status I-485 on Feb. 8th via USPS to the USCIS PO Box 805887 in Chicago. As of today, 27th Feb, the USPS tracking number indicates a delay at Chicago with the note "In Transit to Destination" where it arrived in Chicago on the Feb. 10th.

Is this normal? Does USCIS have the package? I will try again to follow up with USCIS. Our I-94 is expiring soon. Anyone else have similar issues?

Kurt

Does sound odd.

We sent our packet on Friday the 24th and tracking it even shows it was delivered/signed for on Sunday night (which I did not expect honestly)

Says "Delivered" with time and date and "Signed for by: Rich M. "

Another way to tell is if you paid with a check. You can find out from the bank if it was cashed. In any event it can take up to 30 days to get a response (NOA) from USCIS.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I called USPS and they are initiating a case, but I am presuming the PO Box mail was 'lost'. We will be now resubmitting the petition for adjustment of status. This time the delivery will be by FedEx.

The potential issue emerging now is if USCIS received two petitions in two different cubicles and the check gets cashed twice - Yikes!

Any thoughts?

I would wait until you definitely know it has not been received before reapplying.

There is a reason we call this 'snail mail', which can often be dealt with unless the snail sits between a serious lunch break and terminal end. I call the latter at 3 weeks in.

Thx Chardon. :-)

I do contract work for USPS (IT consultant). While I don't have insight into all the delivery processes (oh god, it's complex!), it sounds like your package went missing. Please stay on top of it with USPS...it's a hassle but they really do take missing packages seriously.

I was going to say the exact same thing. They will find it at least there is a tracking number that they can refer to.

So I ended up submitting another application in addition to contacting USPS on the 'lost' mailer with the PO box address. I couldn't wait for another delay with 3 weeks left. USPS did apparently find the letter and push it through, so we had to follow up with a note in our application about the duplicate submission. The USCIS office started processing the first application in the queue (cashed check). So far so good and we now have a receipt number.

I'm surprised a PO box addressed envelope would get caught up in the gum works at USPS. At least they rescued it. I would like to know what happened though.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad it (eventually) got through.

You have no idea...I've seen loose cables on the scanner machines cause issues...
