Truth be told I did not read it but I have seen some stuff on here and on other websites acting like this first started when Trump took office. The wired article starts off like Trump started this whole thing, then further buried in the article it says it's been happening for years. 

 

This is pretty common knowledge on here but it could be bad for people that are only here on visas because they can be refused entry to the USA. Possibly because of refusing to give that up.

I for one, didn't know they could check your phone until I saw the show Border Security. But even if it existed before, it is a possibility that it becomes a more frequently used practice after Trump. Things are still changing now that he is president, and we won't know for sure what else will be implemented. Thank you for the info, Sukie

This shouldn't be a problem for anyone that has nothing to hide. It's a good thing that they are taking extra measures to keep bad guys away and make the country safer for us all.

Thank you Sukie for the reminder for our many members that entry is never guaranteed into the USA unless you are a citizen.   While some of us have experienced such things with CBP and even TSA, there are so many new people here all the time.  I'm glad the media is making the public aware.

The big problem is that things can be misinterpreted.  Some bf/gf call each other 'wifey' or 'hubby'.  On Facebook someone could make an innocent comment questioning if someone is moving to the USA because they're headed there for an extended vacation.  Even carrying your own business card can spell out trouble

I've got nothing to hide... But my employer's (and clients) still don't want me to spread their stuff around. Pretty much traveling with an empty computer and cellphone since 2009.
