Will our application be affected by new immigration laws?

Hello everybody,

My husband filed petition for me in September, we haven't gotten our NOA2 yet and I'm so worried that after these new immigration rules Trump is imposing are going to affect our application in a negative way.

I know I'm not the only one who's worried right now and scared that their pending applications might get frozen indefinitely or worse - simply rejected.

I know here specific list of countries that banned from entering the States, but what about other countries? Did anyone already experienced a problem with their application or entering back the country as an LPR ?

Only those being citizens by birth of the banned countries will face delays and restrictions in their visa process and when entering with legal documentation. You are not on the ban list if you're not Muslim.

Georgia isn't on the list, same as Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Morocco for example. It's valid now for citizens from Yemen, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan and Libya.

Plus, Georgia is a Christian country, so I guess we should be fine.

Like I said, as long as your country is not on the ban-list, you're fine. Google 'countries ban list' and it'll tell you the same. Everyone worries a little and that okay, totally understandable.

The problem is the situation is very very fluid and there are a lot of unknowns at this point --

• The executive order states that new countries can be added to the BAN list at any point in the future. Will he add new countries? Will they be Muslim-majority? Hard to say.
• There has been a hiring freeze at all federal departments; there is an exception for "national security". Does this mean that USCIS or the NVC won't be able to hire new employees? Hard to say. Will this affect processing times? Possibly, but again hard to say with any certainty.
• Trump keeps promising "extreme vetting" procedures (the new executive order never lays out what these will consist of). Will this be added at some point? Will it affect processing times? Hard to say.

The problem is there's no certainty on any of these issues. There are no concrete answers from the Trump administration. Let's take even the 7-country ban right now. People with visas from these countries cannot enter the United States. Does this mean that they're applications will be denied? Or will they be processed and then just have to wait to secure a visa?? No one knows.

 

All of these things, of course, have the potential to affect processing times, but as of now, we just don't have any idea. And, of course, that's totally scary. But at this point, all you can do is keep following VisaJourney and checking to see if people are getting approved and take things one at a time.
