Hello,

 

My husband and I would like to visit Canada for tourism.  I know this is an US immigration site but I hope someone can help with my questions.  For a US passport please confirm the Electronic Travel Authorization fee doesn't need to be paid?  For Legal Permanent Resident with a Nigerian passport please confirm the eTA fee must be paid?  Do you know of a visa is required?  Is there a way to send an email to get the answer to my questions?  I have been playing around with the cic.gc.ca website to try to get answers but I would like reassurance.

I have U.S. residency (Green Card). Do I need a visa or an eTA to visit Canada or can I use my Green Card?

As a U.S. Green Card holder, you do not need a visitor visa to travel to Canada. However, you are expected to have an eTA if you plan to fly to or transit through Canada.

When flying to Canada, you will need to present:

• proof of status in the U.S. (such as a valid Green Card), and
• your valid passport that you used to apply for your eTA.

The border services officer will verify your eTA when you arrive in Canada.

When travelling by land or sea directly from the U.S., you will only need to provide proof of your U.S. lawful permanent resident status (such as your Green Card).

New entry requirement now in effect

Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.
