Fastest place to get married

Hello VJers!

Getting married should be a step under K-1 before AOS, right?

Just read quite a few stories of VJ about the government possibly being slow to generate marriage certificates (6~8 weeks), which would then delay AOS. So what is the fastest place to get married? (Just trying to get things moving as fast as possible within my power.)

Also, I would like to find a jurisdiction that does not require witnesses in addition to being fast.

Las Vegas?

Vegas requires a witness, but some of the chapels do allow you to walk your paperwork over to the office yourself once the ceremony is done which can sometimes allow you to get a marriage certificate the same day.

California allows you to petition to have a special license which would allow you to not have witnesses but I don't know the requirements for the special license. Also not sure on how long they take to send the marriage certificate.

Most chapels in Las Vegas offer to witness for you, just tell them right away. The marriage bureau also had someone to witness there if I had made it on time to my appointment, but don't know if it's always available

i was able to apply online for the marriage license, get it on the same day I got married

we are in KS.  we went 3rd party to some pastor, vs the judge which would have taken longer to schedule and more expensive. This guy charged us $100. My friend was a witness and the pastors wife.  I filed for a copy w/ the vitals office a few days later and next day aired and didnt take very long to get our BC at all.  No need to jet off to vegas.

Like others have said, Clark County in Nevada is quick and sweet.  But there is a long list of places where it is easy and quick to get a marriage license.  San Francisco, Los Angeles even NYC is easy (24 hour waiting period for NYC).  There is a long list of places that only require a 3 day waiting period, Orlando and Seattle to name two.

Since there is a long list of places where it is easy to get married, there are two main questions I would ask:

1.  Do they only require an ID and payment to apply for a marriage license?  If they require a blood test, former divorce decrees etc etc. it then no longer is easy anymore.

2.  Can you pick up your marriage certificate the same day or within a reasonable time period?  Some clerk of courts will hand you the marriage certificate while you wait.

Good luck!  And please report back on what you decide to do.
