Hi All,

I am about to place the ticket to USA. I would like to know what is the procedure like when I land in USA.

As far as I know I have to go to the immigration office and give to them my visa package with passport. Do they interview me?

they proceed with checking again?

The reason I am asking is because I suffer of  Aerophobia and usually I need to take a sleep pill when I take planes specially if I need to flight for long hours.(I have medical reports, etc)

Is there any medical check or any final interview that I need to be fully awake for??

Thanks for your help during all the process!

Regards,

Lisbeth

It depends on the mood of the officer. Some will ask more some will ask less. For me it was basically how much cash I was carrying. He was also curious and asked if all women in Sweden did military service or if it was a voluntary thing (he saw my military records). So yeah, it all depends on the officer and also some will not feel they have time to deal with your visa package and will send you on to secondary inspection. I just arrived in the evening when there weren't many international flights coming in so the first CBP officer I spoke to handled everything instead of sending me to secondary.

If he comments on you being drowsy just tell him like it is.

There's not really an interview when you arrive. All the work has been done when you were issued with your visa and it's mostly just formalities when you land. The line you go into will depend on the airport/terminal you land at (some have dedicated "new immigrant" lines but not all). You'll probably get some basic chat from the first guy in the line, who will look at the stuff inside your brown envelope, then you'll get sent to "secondary processing" - where they interview both new immigrants and non immigrants who they are unsure about - so it's hard to tell in advance how long you may have to wait there - we had a very short initial line when we immigrated but waited over an hour in secondary while they were interviewing some others. When it came it our turn they basically just took our fingerprints for the green cards and welcomed us to the US.

There is no medical exam done when you land.
