Hi,

Strange question but can a possible reason to deny cr1 visa be based off the fact that the couple comes from different culture and different race? I'm greek american and he's Eritrean grown up in saudi arabia both of us are same religion. Although, our families accept each other just wasn't sure if this would pose as suspicion from the interview officer.

Thanks!

No, a visa cannot be denied only based upon different culture/race. A visa can be denied if the CO does not believe you have a bonafide relationship. The best way to overcome that is with multiple visits and frequent communication.

No. They do want to know that you communicate well, and that an include knowing/ learning about eachother's cultures, but a difference in culture by itself will not cause denial.

Everyone going through this process has some cultural differences - there are even differences between my husband and me and we are both white and I am from an English-speaking country. If they didn't allow cultural differences, there would be no immigration visas issued at all!

It would be a concern if the differences were so great (and in so much conflict with one another) that it would be difficult for the CO to imagine how on earth you could live together.

It may get analyzed a bit if it is out of the "cultural" norm for a relationship there; but that isnt a reason for denial necesaarily

I don't think this is an issue. I believe this is one of the reasons why people choose to immigrate (to be free in their choices. To some, especially when it comes to their life partners). Many cultures have some sort of pressure on people who marry out of them. Even if the families blessed it, and everyone happy with it, you'll find the society itself is not helping. In some cases, this actually can be used as additional reason why the family is choosing to settle in the US rather than the country of the other partner.

I had the same concern at some point. But, when I thought about it, it's about proving the marriage is real/true.. you name it. Nothing is about culture, race, ...etc. And it shouldn't be hard to pull evidences from here and there if real relationship exists. What really matters the most at this is the simple fact that both can actually communicate as a basic proof. You wouldn't expect two people from different backgrounds being married if they cannot communicate in the right way. This may raise a red flag. Other than that, everything else should be normal just like if they were from the same race/culture/religion ..etc.
