Hello,

So I am the only sponsor for my husband and he came here with his CR1 visa July 2015 - We both are in US now.

I want to apply for Medicaid for pregnancy ONLY!

Would this cause us any issues since his removal of conditions are going to be in April 2017.

I had read that medicaid for pregnancy is okay because it's temporary but now I can't find the literature online for it.

I need some help!

Thanks!!!

Thanks for you reply!

So this would not interfere with my husband's citizenship?

What if they case was reversed as it is for my brother? He is a US citizen and brought his wife to the US and now she is pregnant on a CR1 visa?

hi, even if you are a USC, medicaid is only for certain categories.

not everyone can qualify for it.

in your case, your pregnancy is covered if your income is 133% below the FPL, so if you had sponsored your non-citizen spouse, then your income must have been 125% above the FPL if you sponsored only one, correct?

don't you have health insurance coverage that you need medicaid?

my take is, either you not be accepted, according to the rules or you will be and jeopardize your spouse future IR-1 adjustment.

you can always try...if you want...

This is completely incorrect.

Medicaid for the USC is no problem.

And Medicaid for pregnant women in some states actually goes to a pretty high income versus standard medicaid for parents. Right now in my state, I think I can earn around 60,000-65,000 and still qualify for it.

Some states CA comes to mind you can get Medicaid from day one. Full blown variety.

I take that back, I can qualify right now with a family income of $79,000. Definitely not 133% FPL. For their family size it would be 56k. Mileage will vary state to state.

I live in North Carolina.

My husband has a job and we don't have any issues with paying bills, but pregnancy is another story.

I also lost my job in in September and I did have insurance so did my husband.

In January 2017 we will have insurance through my husband's job...I have heard that the medicaid for pregnancy can be use in conjunction with your employer based insurance.

My only concern is removal of condition that's coming up.

I wonder if USCIS customer service number will answer such question!

Any other resources or guides that I can use or find out the answer are appreciated

Thanks everyone

actually the qualifying income amount depends on the State where the concerned party lives. The federal gov't subsidizes the State that offers Medicaid to its residents. So the amount of income that qualifies for medicaid varies in every State.

It does seem the medicaid limits in North Carolina are different, but it doesn't change the fact that income or lack there of, or medicaid for the USC or lack there of, has no bearing on removal of conditions.

What are you going to ask them?? How does the sponsors income matter anymore? Your husbands ROC or citizenship has nothing to do with YOU a USC being pregnant or receiving medicaid. I know we like to think of ourselves as a significant part of the process but we are not. This is his immigration journey. Your involvement is limited. Its the same thing with the pregnancy. Yes it is you guys' baby- but technically it is only you that is getting medicaid and health care during the pregnancy. He is a non factor. He doesnt get the morning sickness, he doesnt take the prenatal vitamins, he doesnt get the medicaid. USCIS wont care if an LPRs spouse gets medicare. medicaid, food stamps, goes to jail, becomes president, finds a cure for cancer... they really dont. Theyll find it interesting during an interview if its of an interesting nature like curing cancer or a cute baby but thats about it...

you are too funny!! :) You are right!

However I've gone through hell bringing him here I don't want to jeopardize anything.

I guess my concern was that this is what they might ask:

I was suppose to sponsor my husband, now I don't have a job and I'm getting medicaid for pregnancy! And we signed documents saying we will not be a burden to the whole system.....

I just applied for it today, and I hope it goes through.

Maybe I'm over thinking it...

THANK YOU!
