Hello.

I am planning a 2 day trip to San Antonio. My hubby and I haven't filed for AoS yet because of complications out of our control.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I would like to spend it with him somewhere we haven't been, thats why San Antonio.

Is this a good idea? He is an overstayer of a work visa. I definitely don't want our little vacation be our last.

Are there any check points along i10 from Houston to San Antonio?

If it's too risky, i wouldn't go through with it.

5/11/2018 Priority date; sent to Missouri, MSCxxxxxxxxx

6/15/2018 Biometrics appointment, Houston TX

7/11/2018 RFE for Birth Certificate

7/23/2018 Sent BC in response to RFE

7/31/2018 Confirmation of receipt of the BC

8/3/2018 received courtesy letter for medical 

8/6/2018 Case is ready to be scheduled for interview

9/19/2018 EAD/AP approved

9/20/2018 EAD/AP card in production 

9/24/2018 EAD/AP card is ready to be mailed

9/25/2018 EAD/AP card is mailed, usps tracking included in online update

9/27/2018 EAD/AP card picked up at post office

 

I-130 for 2 husband's daughters (my step daughters) 10 and 17

5/11/2018 Priority Date; sent to Nebraska Service Center, LINxxxxxxxxx

Your timeline, and left sidebar of your posts, say "Naturalization (approved)."

No CBP checkpoints on I-10 until around El Paso. Just don't drop south to Falfurrias.

Note for the future: Even U.S. citizens should avoid the checkpoint just south of Alpine.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I am a naturalized USC but my hubby is an overstayer and we haven't filed AOS.

so, no worries travelling from Houston to San Antonio. A change in atmosphere is always good,

BTW, does that include traveling to Austin too?

None that I have seen in the nearly two decades I've lived here. It's too far north of the border and I-10 is a cross country thoroughfare. They'd be nuts to setup checkpoints there and especially during the holidays and the major travel season.

Only road checkpoints I've ever seen were just north of Corpus Christi and between Yuma, Arizona and San Diego. Both awfully stressful encounters but no issues.

Free and clear; but yea avoid far south regions and by El Paso.

11/08/2016 : Interview - APPROVED!

11/23/2016 : POE - Dallas, Texas

From sending of I-129F petiton to POE - 146 days.

 

02/03/2017 - Married 

02/24/2017 - AOS packet sent

06/01/2017 - EAD/AP Combo Card Received in mail

12/06/2017 - I-485 Approved

12/14/2017 - Green Card Received in mail - No Interview

We did that trip from Houston to San Antonio back in April 2016 , and my husband then was out of status, we did not file with USCIS at that time. All was fine, no issues, no check points, nothing.

Go have fun, see the great Missions there. Keep at posted speed limit on I-10 ...... Buc'ees long the way about 30 minutes before reaching San Antonio is awesome, stop there for sure.

July 5th, 2019   Approval letters for I-130 & I-485 received in the USPS  mail.

Yeah you won't run into any checkpoints from SA all the way into Louisanna, or going I-35 to Austin and up to Dallas.


I've never gone past Junction going West on I-10, but I know there used to be a check point when I was a kid going near Kingsville (Way south of SA) on 281 or highway 77. We used to drive from South Padre to SA a lot when I was kid, and that's one thing I remember.

Either way, enjoy your time in SA, it can be a pretty nice little place to relax and check out the scenes downtown.
