Hi,

I have filed an I-130 for my bother and I'm a US Citizen. According to the processing times, it will take 5 years and 5 months for this to be approved. I've hear from a few people that my brother will have to call the USCIS every year and tell them he is still interested or his application will be tossed. Is this true? Or can we just calmly wait the 5 years and 5 months.

Thank you!

For a fact it will take approximately 6 years for the petition to be approved. As it relates to calling every year I don't know about that but bear in mind that the entire process will take approximately 13 years.

This is untrue. There is no dumpster into which the applications of people who didn't call go. Simply not true and a logistic nightmare.

What matters is when a visa number becomes available and it will be a lot longer than that.

The keep in touch thing is for approved petitions and you are for example waiting out a ban.
