Good Evening everybody, My sister had a green card from 2005-2015 but she went back to Colombia in 2008 and never came back. Its been 8 years and she is wondering now if she can come back to the U.S. Do I have to file a new application for her or Can she request some kind of pardon for being away for so long? Thank you so much for any info I can get.

How did she come to the US in the first place?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

She would have to prove that she didn't intend on staying out so long, took steps to maintain her residence and that staying out was beyond her control to get a returning resident permit. Unless she has been comatose or was being held in someones basement she doesn't qualify

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The returning resident visa requires the long stay abroad was beyond the LPR's control. Choosing to stay outside the US for 8 years is not a reason beyond the LPR's control. The OP's sister will not qualify for a returning resident visa.
