Case approved... now what?

Our case got approved yesterday, after 44 days passed..

I got an app notification but I did not got an email from the USCIS.

Is that ok that I didn't got email?

What is our next move? I read somthing about nvc and set the interview date,but I'm not sure what should I do, and would like some help with that..

Is this for the I-129F petition? So you're NOA2 I assume.

Sometimes you get all the notifications sometimes not.

You should though receive a hard copy of the NOA2 in the mail within say a week maybe(maybe more).

The case will now go to NVC where it will be assigned a case number designated to the embassy it will be forwarded to... this process varies in time so no set time frame but I would think a month maybe before the embassy has it.

The key thing now is for you and your SO to gather the remaining necessary documents required and begin thinking of preparing for medical and any other country specific requirements.

Also though read through the VJ guidelines/time lines http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides , and also the embassy links for your country to check for specifics on the next steps.

Our case took 12 days to reach the NVC after NOA2.

You can call them to see if they've recieved your petition and assigned a case #.

Alternatively you can wait til they send the USC a letter in the mail with the #, but ours was already at the embassy by the time our letter came.

After you get the number, you can check your status on the NVCs case tracker.

Once it goes to 'In Transit' you can actually track it through DHL.

A few days after it arrives at your embassy your case status will say 'Ready.'

This is where evey country differs on how they want you to schedule the medical/interview.

*Can I set a date to the medical already? Or maybe I have to have an interview date or any other document?

*Im from Israel by the way. Is the noa2 hardcopy comes with standart instructions or that maybe each case is different??.

I never got an email for any USCIS processing, and my now-husband and I did a K-1 visa through the Jerusalem consulate.

The next move to make your appointment for the interview, usually they contact the beneficiary, but I wanted to follow up, so I called the NVC and they could tell me when his packet was sent to the Jerusalem Consulate. I remember I had to call them a few times before they actually sent it because they said it was still waiting to be sent. The packet also has to go through customs going into Israel, so that can also cause some delays.

You can also email the Jerusalem Consulate, they have 2 email addresses you can follow up with: one for immigrant visas, one for nonimmigrant visas. Even though a K-1 is considered, technically, a non-immigrant visa, it is handled by their immigrant visa team, so the immigrant visa email address is the one you want to inquire with: Jerusalemivinquiries@state.gov

Also, check the Jerusalem Consulate website for more information, you may need to provide the JRS-number in the subject line, if you have it already.

I also had to email them in order to get the digital copy of "Packet 3" (the paper one finally arrived in the mail literally the day AFTER the interview).

Oh thank you a lot.. So you are basically saying that the NVC number is just for the follow-up? And they will contact me to set a date?

Do I set the date online after they will instruct me ?

You will need that case number (in your case, doing a K-1 through Israel, it will start with "JRS") before you can make any appointments for your interview. You need to call the NVC to get this number (or your petitioner who is presumably in the US will need to call -- it's easier to reach because they are located on the east coast of the US.). They will want to know the receipt number that appears at the top of your NOA2 in order to locate that case number. The case number is assigned to your packet once it is sent from the US /NVC to Jerusalem.

You should also hear from the Jerusalem Consulate in some way once they receive your packet/case for further instruction. You can also email them and inquire using the email address I listed in my previous post. Once you have that case number, the JRS number, this is what you will use to track your case, schedule your appointment, and submit any other necessary documentation associated with your case.

They will instruct you what to do, but in my opinion, things happen faster when you are proactive and you reach out to them first, or repeatedly.

So why is that everyone calling repeatedly calling to get the case number from the NVC if we still have to wait for the case to arrive to Jerusalem consulate?

Isn't it possible so schedule an interview just with NVC case number ?

Basically, you could just wait until you hear from the Consulate... but some people want to get ahead of the process and make the most use of their time between when the case is approved and sent to the Consulate and the time that they need to schedule their interview. In this time, you need to make sure you have all of the documents needed for your interview (some people like inquiring about packet 3 ahead of time so they can make sure they get everything in order). It may also give you a better idea of the timeline as to when you anticipate your interview so you can start to get your affairs in order if you're planning on moving shortly after approval (my fiance and I bought our tickets back to the US literally the day he got his passport back with the visa inside, and we left Israel 4 weeks later to go to the US).

From just calling the NVC and talking to their representatives, and speaking to an Israeli lawyer who specializes in US/Canada/UK immigration, it's best to be proactive and not wait until the last minute to get your stuff in order -- it seems like common sense to some, but it's not to others.

Having packet 3 helps with more country-specific documentation that they require you to bring to your interview (for example, in Israel, they require you to bring your Form 807 -- honorable military discharge certificate -- AND anything that is in Hebrew needs to have a full English translation to accompany it -- you don't want to wait to the last minute to obtain that!).

It is advisable that your fiance physically mail you a copy of the entire packet that they submitted, so that you have a complete version and can bring it, along with the accompanying documents mentioned in packet 3 to your interview. You will want to be very familiar with the details inside those papers and be able to answer questions about them in your interview, as well as correct the CO if they are missing documents or need more information.

In general, make use of the waiting periods during this process, because you do not want to experience delays and RFEs for something you could have prevented by paying attention to the details and following directions during THIS waiting period.

Happy to answer more questions, we went through the process with no RFEs and we did see an Israeli lawyer for some immigration advice and translations, but we put our petition and all other immigration papers together ourselves.
