How to answer Q2 on i-134

2. I am ____ years of age and have resided in the United States since _____.

I am a child from someone serving the military and we lived overseas for 6 years before returning to the USA. And the city I was born in is not listed on my birth certificates, yes I have two: one that my parents got when I was born with their address at the time and a second when we thought we left my b.c. at the border while coming back from Canada.

I was born in 1986 on military base in the USA, in 1987 we moved to Japan and moved back to the States in 1993. We lived on-base in Japan from 1988 till 1993, which is counted as American territory last I recall.

Unsure if I should place the day I was born or 1993. Sadly I don't know what the exact date when we arrived in the USA, nor do I still have my passport when I was a baby/child. The earliest of being in the USA is around August 1993 before I started Elementary School. But I assume I will need to write a letter of explaining why I put what I did.

Military bases are not actually US soil. That is why children born abroad on military bases do not automatically acquire US citizenship as if born within the US.

Despite widespread popular belief, U.S. military installations abroad and U.S. diplomatic or consular facilities abroad are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th Amendment. A child born on the premises of such a facility is not born in the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth.

Anyway, you were born in the US, so just put your age and then birthdate in 1986. Your parents did not give up residence in the US. They were just stationed abroad for a few years due to military service. No explanation letter needed.

We are now filling the I-134 and stumbled across some doubts about the "Citizenship or Residency or Status" part. The petitioner was born in Japan in a military base.

 

He doesn't have a Certificate of Citizenship -- he has a "Certificate of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the USA". So should we check the 11.b. (I am a U.S. citizen through parent(s) or marriage") and put N/A under "My Certificate of Citizenship number is:"?

 

Also, should we fill the question 12 ("I am xx years of age and have resided in the US since...")? He lived in Japan until 3 y/o, then back to the US, and then again back to Japan. Now he lives in the US since 7yo.

My fiance is in the same situation. We are filling in i 134 at the moment and we were wondering how did it go for you with what you guys filled in. My fiance was born in South Korea to a US citizen (his mother), and he has an CRBA( it does not have any issue number) and passport. He lived there until 12y old then moved to US where he lives until present.
