Does anyone know the reasoning behind not requiring a signature when these items are delivered? I have been checking our case status constantly, so I knew my husband's EAD card went out in the mail Sept 16. I was surprised we did not have it by last weekend, so I checked the case status to see the USPS "delivered it to us" on September 22. They did not. I spent plenty of time on the phone with the USPS and USCIS. All anyone could tell me was, sorry but the tracking information says it was delivered so apply for a replacement and pay the fee and wait for however many months all over again.

Luckily, I am stubborn and not shy. We walked our street asking our neighbors if they had it. We managed to find it at one of them and are very happy to not have to re-apply, but seriously...

Why do they not require a signature, especially with how often this seems to happen according to the message boards??

The overwhelming majority of cards get where they need to go, most people are not home to sign for something that has no definitive delivery date, and it is more expensive to require a signature.

You do not think the filing fees we pay are enough to cover requiring a signature? Yes, most make it, but for those that do not it is a huge inconvenience and worry for them. There would be no simple and easy way of replacing the card. I have read the stories from those who were not fortunate enough to find their missing cards. If you are not home to sign for it, there is usually an option to go pick it up. They leave you a card letting you know they have something requiring a signature. I would much rather add a few days to find time to go pick it up than risk it being lost, or even have the option to pay an additional fee to have it sent to me requiring a signature.

I would be pissed at my neighbors for keeping my mail that long and have a talk with the mail carrier to be more careful next time.

RFE response : June 26, 2015 returned with a boat load full of financial evidence.

UPDATE: July 5, 2015 updated on all 3 cases, RFE received June 30, 2015.

Service request : Aug 12, 2015, letter received that it will be processed within 90 days from receipt of RFE.

UPDATE: Aug 24, 2015, EAD card being produced/ordered. ( 102 days from AOS receipt day and 55 days from RFE response received.) Thank you Jesus !

Emails : Aug 24, 2015, EAD approved, EAD card ordered.

I-797 EAD/AP approval notice received : Aug 27, 2015

Sept. 21 Interview, 2 hour interview, we were separated and asked about 50 questions each for an hour each. IO was firm but professional, some smiles.
Several service requests made, contacted Senator and Ombudsman. Background checks still pending.
July 21, 2017 HOME VISIT.  Went well. Topic thread in AOS forum.
Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.

I would be pissed if they required a signature. What, do people need to take time off of work to wait around for the mail? You'll have more cards coming after the EAD.

I know what you mean. Occasionally, I get my neighbor's mail and I always take great pains to make sure it gets to them as soon as possible. As to the signature requirement, I also would not want to wait around for a delivery. The cable guy coming in a five hour window is bad enough.
