I-129F Cover Letter

Hi All,

My fiancee is just about to submit our K-1 petition and I think we're good to go. Just have one quick question about the I-129F cover letter.

How much detail about our situation should we give?

We don't have a complicated case to explain as we have been with each other in person for most of the relationship, and lived together for just over two years before she moved back to the USA for a job.

Do we just briefly explain the situation? I.e. met at this time, moved here at this time, lived together at this time, she relocated for this reason, etc.? Or does the cover letter merely need to state what we are applying for?

Thanks in advance :)

It can be as detailed you want ! :)

The coverletter is usually just to provide them with a list over what you are submitting in your I-129F package.

I need a tie-breaker! If it's just a list, where do you best explain the circumstances of your case? I feel like the "letter stating how you met" is not appropriate to explain this.

The "cover letter" and the "I-129F Supplement: Part 2, Question 34.a" are usually two different things.

The cover letter only needs to be a list of what's in the package, ie:

-Check of 340USD
-i-129f form
-Letters of intent from petitioner and beneficiary

and so on.

Thanks. We have included the I-129F Supplement: Part 2, Question 34.a in the submission, but this just explains how we met. Should we use this page to expand on our relationship, living situation, when we were engaged, etc.? Or do they not care to know all this information?

USCIS only cares to know that you have actually met each other within the last two years. But you can add other stuff on that sheet if you want to.

Coverletter is what I stated.

The letter you are talking about is someting different.

But you really don't have to write more then " We met on xx on xx date" and thats it. Your evidence will support the rest :)

If you do what to do a letter you can ... don't make it to long though. and just write it's an attachment to xxx and bla bla and sign it after

Everyone sweats the I-129F cover letter, as I did.

My cover letters got progressively shorter as Mrs. T-B.'s immigration process went on.

You can list everything attached in your package, chiefly as a reminder/checklist for yourself.

You can do just as well with this as a cover letter:

To whom it concerns:

Please find attached the original I-129F package from [petitioner's name].

Sincerely,

_____ [your name]

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
