My wife had to get her temporary I-551 stamp because we just bought a house and she was still waiting for her green card replacement. Now we got a unexpected trip over seas and still no green card yet.. We travel in 5 days and her temporary I-551 does not expire until January 2017. Will we have any problems leaving or re-entering the US is this stamp good for international travel?

The temporary I-551 stamp serves as evidence for both travel and work authorization like an actual green card. Yes she's fine to travel as long as it's still valid. Upon re-entry to the U.S. CBP will simply just verify the authenticity of the stamp and admit her so no worries. By the way I used it as well to travel.

Nice! That's good news. Hers is just a stamp with her A# inscribed in pen and the expiration date also inscribed with pen, it also has a eagle symbol imprinted behind the stamp. Also it's a Mexican passport. Did your stamp sound similar to hers?

Looks like the ADIT ( temporary I-551) stamp got a little makeover with the eagle symbol. Had mine last year and was simple with the notation "upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residency for 1 year" "Enployment Authorized". Officer also hand wrote A-number as well as validity dates together with his USCIS ID number.
