Selective service doesn't have my record...

I remember registering for the Selective Service, during my interview for the CR1 category at my country's American embassy. I remember USCIS asking me the question that in case if the country needs you, will you be able to help this country in need? I remember saying Yes, and I came to USA in August, 2014. I was 24 then. Now I recently applied for ROC, and got my biometrics done, and was curious to know what's the process for applying for citizenship and in part 46, there was a question regarding Selective Service Number. I looked it up, and realized that I was asked these kinds of questions during my interview. So I tried looking up on the sss. gov website last Friday, and nothing popped up (no record). I tried calling them to verify, and gave my details and said they don't have my record. The lady asked me couple of question, including why I failed to register, and I told her by all means, first of all, I wasn't aware of the Selective Service, and second, all I remember was that that Immigration officer asked me if I want to volunteer incase this country needs me, and I said Yes. What should I do now? Please help

You became an LPR as a CR-1? That should have automatically signed you up, because there's a provision for it on the small print of the visa application.

Yes, and I never thought its gonna bite me in the a** like this. Today I called the selective service, they said they don't have my record. I remember I did sign that, and the immigration officer also asked me that and have me signed something too.

I don't think you can sign up from abroad. But worst case if you did in fact fail to sign up is that you can't get citizenship on your normal clock. You will be denied but in some years (I forget how many) they will forgive you and you can naturalize.

This won't effect your ROC.

But also, I wouldn't trust who you talked to. Did they look it up in the right way? Did they spell your name right? This could all be human error.

Why did other people Selective service popped up, and mine didn't?

The lady as Selective service, got all my details right. I mean I don't consider it my fault at all. Neither was I told to follow-up on that, nor did I receive any notification for applying for selective service. For CR-1 visa, there's already a lot in a person's plate, they should have added another thing. I mean I am a Nurse by profession, why wouldn't I want to register for such an opportunity for helping and supporting my future country. I anyways love serving humanity.

Both of my boys info will not pop up online. My boys came as K2's and USCIS registered the oldest automatically just before he turned 18. The card just showed up at the house one day.

He lost his card and needed a new one so he looked online to order a new card and could not be found. He did have to call and talk to more then one person to find him in the system. Without a social registered with them they have to dig a bit more.

I got my social when I came here, I didn't have my social when I was being interviewed at the embassy for my CR-1 visa. Could that be a reason? They may have not linked my social with my selective service.

It could be if they were looking for you by your social.

Which is the easiest way to find you if it's linked.

I'd keep calling. Explain it's not tied to your SSN.

Worst case scenario is that you can't naturalize until you are 31.

Are you over 26 now? If you are not, you can still register.

That's annoying. I'd keep calling. Insist that you are pretty sure you are in their system.

I remember they asked my husband the question at the interview but we had to mail the paper in once he arrived In the U.S. and a card was mailed to him weeks later.
