Medical exam failed! Help!

My husband went to London today and had his medical. They had his NHS records showing in the past he had a bout of depression after a job loss and financial problems and suicide thoughts. He isn't even on antidepressants now and the Dr told him he would never be approved at the interview! That is is useless to even go to the appointment at the embassy!!!

Doctor's do not make the decision. The consular officer will make that decision. Depression is not on the list for medical reasons to not issue a visa.

The doctor gave you false information and quite a scare! Having situational depression (such as after a tragic/stressful event) DOES NOT mean that the beneficiary is automatically ineligible for a green card. What a reckless statement by a medical professional!

He needs a letter from his GP. He should have taken this to the medical to begin with.

They want to know full diagnosis, date, cured or ongoing, if it requires medication, etc. Its a letter/report from the doctor, not photocopies of you records. If you are claiming to have suffered from depression, there are some magic words your doctor needs to write: You are not a threat to yourself or others.

There are plenty of posts about this if you search, London-specific. It's not new or unexpected. The US will not give visas to people who pose a threat to themselves or others. Your husband needed to go to his medical with a statement from his GP that he does not pose a risk to himself or others.

I don't know what to do now that he didn't do that.

If your mental state can be seen as a threat towards yourself or others this will be an issue, yes, And that's why they ask questions about this at the medical.

The question was more why did he take them?

A medical for a guest jolly in a US fighter jet? They want to see absolutely everything, so you have little choice.

For this? There are some no doubt what would appear to be horrendous things in my NHS history, but that is really no-ones business but mine, and I certainly wouldn't volunteer that information or turn up with my entire NHS folder. I showed up with the required vaccinations history, and most importantly my credit card (they don't accept amex either annoyingly).

I did however answer their questionnaire truthfully, and bar what I surmised to be additional questions relating specifically to my answers, it caused me no issues or delays.
