My husband became a US citizen yesterday morning! A big shout out to Visa Journey for helping us complete our journey.

Our journey began over 5 years ago with my husband (then boyfriend) being denied a tourist visa - twice. We had no idea what we thought we were doing. As most of the US population I had no clue as to who could and couldn't visit much less move to our country. In fact, if you would have asked me 5 years ago what it means to be a US citizen my answer would have been much different and pretty meaningless compared to my answer today.

A frantic google search in the middle of the night for denial based on 214 b led me to visa journey. I've been logging on ever since.

Thanks to visa journey I spend $0.00 on attorney fees. I followed the guides and used the example forms and asked questions if I wasn't sure. I probably should disclose that my ex was an attorney who told me I would never be able to make it on my own so I had extra motivation to never set foot in an attorney's office. I can't even begin to tell you the pride i feel at completing this entire journey for my husband from K1 to Naturalization on our own with the help of VJ.

Not only did VJ give me moral support, but it provided hours of entertainment while waiting what seemed like forever for approval of petitions. My husband and I have made some life long friends along the way that we have met up with in person after becoming friends on VJ.

While our visa journey has come to an end, I know I will continue logging on.

6/11/2016: Married!

6/02/2016: Medical exam done

7/08/2016: I-485 & I-130 & I-765 sent to USCIS (Day 0)

7/17/2016: NOA via SMS & Email received (Day 9)

7/18/2016: Checks cashed (Day 10)

7/20/2016: NOA letters received (Day 12)

08/30/2016: I-131 sent

7/30/2016: Biometrics appointment letter received (scheduled for 9 August) (Day 22)

8/01/2016: Attempted walk-in Biometrics in LA: rejected (Wilshire)

Congratulations! Same here with VJ. I had absolutely no clue about the immigration system, or how it worked. One day I typed in "K1 visa" on google and VJ popped up with step by step instructions. Thanks to VJ, I was able to follow their steps, and file everything on my own. So far so good. As I have stuck around in the VJ community I have learned more and more about different types of visas and the process and complications with most. I love VJ! Anyways congrats to you!! :dance:

Congratulations!!! ??? I'm just now starting my journey with my husband and that's what I look forward to the day he can become a USC. I also find this forum helpful (not everybody is that nice on here or as pleasant as I first thought it would be ) I never thought I'd go through the immigration process but then I met the love of my love and now we are married and expecting our first!!

Congratulations on your finish line to end of immigration!

We are please to see a happy ending.

As I am also working on my Journey I am hopping for best!

We should have a separate section for Success story for forum immigration and non immigration or in general section!

Want to Speed up NVC Process ?


Check Guides From Guide section for doccuments and list of stuff and follow this steps


Step 1 After USCIS NOA2 Gather all AOS / IV Package Documents In 3 weeks


Between USCIS Approving and NVC Case Number you have 2 to 3 weeks gather all AOS and IV Documents Get package ready.


Step 2 Obtain NVC Invoice and Case number.


​After 2 weeks of NOA2 Keep on Calling NVC every day to get case number And Invoice number


Step 3 Pay First Fee and DS261


After getting NVC Case Number and Invoice Number Log in to webpage Pay First Fee and Fill out DS261 Takes 24 to 38 Hr to get fee status paid.


Step 4 Conform Agent / Ds261 Over Phone and Sent out Documents


Once First fee turns Paid Online ( Usualy 24 to 48 hr) Call NVC And conform choice of agent over Phone If they won't keep on calling them Until someone will Or other fee won't be unlocked.Also Once you get Welcome letter on email Print out Document Checklist sheet And Sent in your documents to NVC


Step 5 Pay Other Fee and Fill out DS260 (Total time from DS 261 to here should be no longer then 15 days )


​Step 6 Conform Document delivery AT NVC And Ask them Processing Time..


Step 7 Check For CC ( Hopefully no REF )


Call them every other day 2 weeks from DS260 and Check status.. Also Check Online NVC Page If you have 3 N/A your case Complete! Congratulation you are almost done.


Step 8 48 Hr After CC Conformation Call NVC For appointment for interview


Congratulation On your NVC CC AND Good Luck with Interview

Thanks for your post it highlights the goals of most of us, a successful and happy joining of cultures, it's nice to hear of the success stories, all too often we only hear the train wrecks

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Like you and many others, my husband and I have found VJ extremely helpful and informative, especially when it comes to avoiding delays. Often I read through forums and yours prompted me to wonder about something.

While my husband and I were getting to know one another through constant chats, skypes, and phone communication, he tried to get a student visa. His agent at the time suggested that would be a good way to both get an education and for us to spend much time with each other in person while he was here. I was not his sponsor and the school is not in my state. After his first interview, he was denied because the consulate needed more documentation to prove strong ties to his country. He provided the documentation at another interview, and was denied again because there was yet more documents needed.

After reading your post, I was wondering what the consulate asked your husband about his visitor visa requests at his interview. How did his previous denials get addressed? Were the denials an issue at all?

Will you kindly let me know what we can expect?

Thank you SOS & OGS. I was able to attend my husband's interview at the consulate with him and the previous denials never came up. They were never an issue from K1 - citizenship.
