Hello VJ Family,

My fiance called the clinic today to get an idea of costs for the medical and what he needs to bring. He said he was told he needed a letter of invitation from the embassy to have the medical done. Has anyone else heard of this? Could that also refer to the application payment receipt? I'm a little confused because I know they don't mail anything in Nigeria.

It's the email NVC should have sent you. The one he has to take to the interview.

Hi all,

For Lagos, you don't call to schedule an interview at the embassy or for the medical. For the medical you can just "walk in" to either of the clinics. The documents my fiance took with him to the medical exam were the initial letter (email) from packet 3 (what the embassy will email you to notify you once they have your packet from NVC-- it is an email "inviting you" to apply/interview for the visa with all instructions). He also took with him his interview confirmation letter-- the confirmation page you will print once you've completed the DS-160 and booked the interview.

At the medial exam, they will need to see these documents because they will also document what type of visa the beneficiary is interviewing for.

In our case, the emails from the embassy were sent to the petitioner. However, we didn't wait for Lagos to email us. Once we saw that our case was showing "ready" on the NVC case tracker website, we immediately emailed Lagos first and then they replied. You can wait to hear from them if you want-- we were just proactive. Hope this helps. :)

We went to our medical without the scheduled appointment. Because we knew our Visa Category then they were fine. We took the email where the IVC requested for the medical with us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Can I go on the consulate site to get the email address? I will email them immediately since I haven't received anything yet (I'm petitioner) and I have access to both our emails...he hasn't received anything either. I imagine though it will come soon because the status was just updated to "Ready" today! :dancing::dancing:

Ok, my fiance completed his DS-160 and we are waiting on packet 3 (so he can get his medical done)...I told him he has to go to GT Bank to pay the application fee but when I went on the travel docs site to try and get packet 3...this is what I read:

Fee Payment Options

  • Cash at Bank

With the exception of K visa applicants who must pay at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, any nonimmigrant visa applicant can pay their visa application fee in cash at any GTBank branch. At the bank, you must write your fee payment amount and your telephone number in the U. S. visa fee collection slip available at the bank. After receiving your payment, the bank will give you a receipt.

So now I'm a bit confused...also it was said that we don't have to wait for packet 3 but won't he need the letter in packet 3 to present at medical?

Others are saying you can schedule your interview on the phone once you pay the $260 :huh2:

I am so excited for you. Your process is coming along nicely.

How did your fiancee fill out the DS-160 without paying the $265.00 fee @ GT BANK? This is the steps I did.. in order.

Email - lagosiv@state.gov if you havent already done so to receive an email explaining everything listed below.

Your fiance will do the following:

1. Go to GTB Bank and pay the Fee $265.00 (You will need this receipt # when you fill out your DS-160 online)

2. Fill out the DS-160 Form online @ https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx

3. Go do your Medical @ Children's Place or QLIFE (I went to QLIFE and did not need any email or letter, I just told them that I was a K1 category - - took 5 business days)

4. Get your police report done at Algabon (This can usually be done same day)

5. Schedule your Interview @ http://www.ustraveldocs.com. (I finished the above in 5 days and was able to schedule the appt within a week)

6. Compile your affidavit of support, and any/all documents listed on the email.

So happy for you! A few more weeks and you will have your VISA in hand by the GRACE of ALMIGHTY GOD!
