We have most of the process finished and I received the conformation email that the Consulate in Rio received the K-1 packet. My fiance lives just outside of Sao Paulo. I'm not sure if Rio is the only place they process these packets or not? Can the process be forwarded to Sao Paulo or can she just go to the interview on Sao Paulo?

Rio right now with the Olympics, is very expensive to travel to and a night mare for travel in general. Not to mention they are saying there are extended wait time with the Olympics for the Rio Consulate. There is also the time to travel to get there she would have to take a few days off work. Any help with how this process works would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!
Yes! The consulate of Rio is the only one that issues immigrant visas. São Paulo and the others offer non-immigrant working and tourists. So yea, she will have to go to Rio for the interview. Also, in Brazil you don't have to send anything back. The packets are only for the next steps of the procedure. All documents listed will have to be taken to the embassy for the interview, so no need to send documents back.

The consulate posted around 2 months ago that the availability for the immigrant visas will be shortened in august and beginning of september, but not inexistent. I believe scheduling will be harder because the hours will probably be cut, since the ambassadors are also representatives of America here and the Olympics will probably give them some work.

Now what your fiancé needs to do is to get he medical done, with the doctors selected by the consulate and the shots, if any. fill out DS-160, pay the fees and schedule the interview. In the meanwhile, gather all documentation, specially yours, such as Affidavit of Support, tax docs, income verification, bank statements, employment letter, a new letter of intent, etc. I don't know if you have plans on traveling for the interview as well, but if you're not, it is really important that she has the original documents for the interview, so be ready do send these papers asap so your process doesn't delay much. Correios, our USPS, is not super fast and it can take a while to get things delivered. When scheduling the interview, make sure to think about the time frames needed depending on what your situation will be like.

I am also from Brazil. if you want to DM for questions and such, feel free to do so :)

Good luck

Thanks, I already had all the support information together and sent a whole package of stuff to her last week cause I knew it would be soon. Now when you say originals. I have originals of the forms and stuff from the bank, plus some support info. But I only included a copies of my bank statement and check stubs. Will they need originals of them too?

Hmm. it depends on who you get as an interviewer. it's up to you if you want to take everything. My point of view is I'd rather be over prepared than not have something they ask for. You can send certified copies, that works as well.

I am also not sure, but those documents might be requested on the pre-interview. When you get to the consulate, they give you a list with an order to put your files in, you pass through 2 different people that will check your papers, and then you head to the actual final decision interview, so it might be required documentation for those pre-interview stages.

PS: my fiancé is also from Michigan. We're filling for FL because that's where he lives now. haha what a coincidence.
