Can I change my last name in the 90days ROC for new issued green card

My case has been approved, I'm going to visit my husband next week and so can't change my passport to my married name. In my country you have to change your passport before you get the police report, so it will delay my process. I was reading it is free of charge to change the name on your Green Card when you are removing the condition on this, is this true? So can I go and change my passport as I come back from the states, buy still submit a copy of my old passport and police report in my maiden name at NVC, and then when I remove the condition within the 90 days change my last name on my green card?

Yes you can change you name on Green Card later on for free when filing for removal of condition. You can keep using your current passport if you think changing it to married name will take time and delays the process.

To change your name on the Green Card during the ROC process, you would need to produce a document showing a legal name change, it's not something you can just do during that particular process.

Only the Naturalization process affords the opportunity to change a name without the need for any documents beforehand if an applicant so desires.

Both passport and Police record have express service. I travelled to see my husband right around when I got approved too. You can get both the certificate and the passport changed within one week.

Police certificate is 8000 for next day and 6000 for 5 days ( I did five days)

Regular passport is only 7 working days which is 6500 and you can get it in 3 days for 9500. (You can also get same day or next day for about 16,000)

So basically, you can get both documents in a week and a half without it being very expensive.

You have about two weeks at NVC anway, waiting for fees to unlock and be processed. Good luck.
