Can a refused tourist visa use previously issued valid US visa

Hi, I and my family applied for US visitors visa but were refused visas. However I have my previous visitor's visa which I was issued earlier. It is in my expired passport. Does consular officer cancel my previous visa in the system when he refused my new visa application? Can I travel to US using my old valid visa? He didn't tell me he cancelled my old visa neither did he ask for it.

Why did you apply for a new one when you had a valid one?

Your profile says that you are pursuing an F2A category visa. Is that so? That could be a reason for your tourist visa denial.

I had a three week valid visa before its expiration therefore thought to renew it. Moreover, I thought to help my spouse to speak in English since she speaks very little English. My native language is not in the list of options. I choose F2A because I couldn't find B1 or B2 when filling my profile.

With your visitor visa denial on your new passport, I bet your old visa is no longer valid since you can't have two visitor visas (whether approved or denied) at the same time. The latest one will be in effect. Even if you try to enter US that way, as soon as the officer at port of entry sees the visa denial stamp on your new passport, you will be sent back home.

But he did not put any visa denial stamps in neither of my passports. He just looked at my new passport and his computer screen then told me he couldn't give us visa. I have an expired passport with a valid visa. My new passport has no visa nor any stamp regarding denial.

Normal for the old one to be cancelled.

Highly likely. Even though they did not put any rejection stamp on your passport or any cancellation stamp on your old passport, you are denied a visitor visa at present and they will have that in their system. So i don't think now you can travel on your old visa.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Something does not make sense. If your previous visa was issued just a few months ago, why did you not use it for whatever trip you had planned with your family? Why would you apply for a new one when it is still valid?

Sounds like you were sent by yourself to try to see if you get approved. Then once approved, the whole family goes, thinking they will get approved too as you already did.

The CO must have had the same feeling.
