NVC said to obtain a new police certificate to bring to our interview if it's been one year or more since we got a police report. We got one in May and submitted it to the NVC and now have a interview scheduled in the end of August. The thing is I was told that the police certificates in Algeria are only valid for three months. What do we do?

Police reports are valid for a year across the board, I believe.

In my case, my fiance got his police reportand it states on it that it is only valid for 3 months. For embassy purposes though, it is valid for a year.

When you obtain police reports, they could be used for any purpose so the agency where you obtained them is putting a time validity on them. That time validity is not necessarily reflective of the embassy's time validity of the police report.

Go with whatever the embassy has stated. You can also go to your country portal here in VJ and it might tell you as well.

Have you gotten embassy checklist yet? We sent police report that was valid for 3 months to NVC too, but the embassy requested a new one which they asked for at the interview. So if embassy asks for a new one, you should get a new one

Thanks for the response everyone! I didn't get a letter from the embassy I'm not even sure if they notify us or anything. I just got the interview notice from NVC. feel it will be easier to get a new police certificate and not chance it.

and no, crimianal investigations are not good for a year

in morocco there are 2

the driving one is good for a year mostly because most do not drive

the other is good for only 3 months as in Algeria

get a new criminal investigation report and send it with translation to spouse in the US / about $35 and will take about 4 to 5 days by crono post

the US spouse needs to make sure he/ she adds to the upper right hand corner the case number and both DOB's to ensure it is not lost in office paperwork

We already submitted all documents to the NVC and received a interview date. I was asking in regards to the interview.

Get a new everything (Birth Certificate/Police Record/Court Record), it is like in Morocco, all 3 of them are valid only for 3 months.
