Affidavit of Support and Bank Statements

Hello.

I am currently pulling together the information to accompany the Affidavit of Support for my fiance. It has been suggested that I include bank statements, but I'm wondering how important it is to include bank statements? I am not self employed, and I currently have

• last 3 year's tax filings (including IRS transcripts)
• last 3 year's W2's
• last 6 months' payslips (January - June 2016)
• letter of employment

I think this is mostly dependent on your embassy. However, I personally think it's better to have it and not need rather than you need it and your file gets placed on AP and further delays your process. It's better to be amply prepared I think. I got mine mailed to me and went to the bank and it was a 5 minute process. Wishing you all the best.

Bank statements are only necessary if your income does not meet the requirement.

for my case k1 in Vietnam...i submitted 3 yrs of tax transcript only (no 1040) I beilive either one but they refer the tax transcript. Even better if you can join him the interview..

It could be beneficial to include bank statements, it certainly doesn't hurt! If you can show bank statements from the last year or two indicating you receive a regular paycheck, this could complement any pay stubs you are presenting. It also shows financial stability in that someone didn't temporarily lend you money in order to pass any kind of financial standards for the immigration process.

If you're skirting the line of the financial requirements, or if you don't have previous years' tax transcripts, this could be beneficial to include. When I was petitioning for my husband's K1 I wanted to make the application as airtight as possible, and we had no issues with showing financial support proof.

He's presenting 3 years worth of tax returns and six months of paystubs - I think it is pretty clear that he hasn't been lent any money ;-)

Also, showing proof of ongoing income (letter of employment) would be the most solid proof.

Using assets (eg. money in the bank) is usually just a back-up if the sponsors income is too low.

It will certainly not hurt to include the statements - but why make the process harder than it needs to be?

Yes, I have a letter of employment, and my salary significantly exceeds the minimum required. Including the bank statements just feels uncomfortable...and as you say A'n'L it just makes the process harder. But...

Yeah, I know the "but, what if"-feeling and I was also guilty of overloading on all sorts of proof to no need.

I just don't want there to be spread rumors on the forum that all that is strictly necessary. Not everyone are in the fortunate situation that obtaining the surplus of evidence is easy.

We are waiting for our NVC case number at this point, my question now, do I wait for the NVC letter before I send out my affidavit of support to my fiancé or I can send it now? Do I have to send originals or copies will do?

They are not needed.

You only need to use bank statements if you are using assets in a bank account, have non-taxable or other source of income that you need to verify, or are self-employed and wish to show how much income you deposit each month.

For an employee that meets the income requirement, you typically need most recent tax transcript or complete copy of return, letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs. If your consulate's instructions specifically request anything other than those things, then also include what they ask for.

bank statement is optional as well as 2-3 year of tax, and 2-3 year of w2 if you're currently employed and making more than poverty guidelines for your state

You can send it now if you want. If you want to make sure you have recent copies for the interview, then you could wait also. Up to you.

The I-134 should have a wet signature, anything else can be copies. My fiancé sent me his paystubs as pdf's, so I had the most recent ones for the interview.
