Hello, anyone have ideas/suggestions about moving personal items from another country? maybe this is not the place to post and I know most people are in the same stage of the process. My fiancé lives in Russia. We are hoping she will have fiancé visa by November. She wants to bring most of her clothes to US. Is this just not practical? It would be maybe equivalent to say 20 suitcases full. Do most people just come with what they can carry o the plane? Thank you

It's expensive no matter what method to ship you use.. By freighter is the cheapest but it takes 2-3 months sometimes for the items to arrive. Also, you get a better rate for say 10 boxes or more shipped at once. 20 suitcases is a lot. Time to weed out the clothes. Compare your climate to hers and get rid of clothing that's not needed in your climate. Stuff that hasn't been worn in a year or price tag still on? Bye bye. Classic case of downsizing for any kind of move whether 80 miles or 8,000 miles. Sometimes buying new items is cheaper than trying to ship them. I am setting aside money just for clothes replacement when my fiance gets here so she can ship the minimum amounts of clothes, memories and some personal items.

We have just started looking into moving costs. The company we are looking into is Crown Relocations www.crownrelo.com. I am not sure if they have a branch in Russia or not. However, they have been very quick to respond to our inquiries. They have sent us a self survey to fill out to get a better idea on a quote. Once we get the quote, we can decide if it's worth moving or just replacing.

Clothes were so much cheaper in morocco i had Adil use his money from selling his car to bring as much as possible as Morocco doesn't allow much money out of the country

Nebraska will be a lot hotter than she is use to so why not the 2 big checked in bags and 1 carry on

and new clothes for here / you do get some nasty winter storms but not a long winter like she is use to

best advice / leave things and bring only needed clothes / be ready to buy new what she needs

Quick, expensive option:

For the price of those clothes, you could contact FedEx or UPS. It won't be cheap.

Slow, cheaper option:

Bring two suitcases on the first trip. I assume she'll be back in Russia once in a while to visit - At which point she brings two nearly empty suitcases and fill them up in Russia. It'll take a while.

I still have a few things here in Sweden that I am planning on bringing back after my visit. It takes a while but it's cheaper.

20 suitcases? Maybe she could sort out the most important must haves and do away with some items that aren't so important.

Often we women have many clothes and shoes but really tend to wear certain things repeatedly.

Just a suggestion.

Clothes can be bought in America, 20 suitcases sounds ridiculous. :D

My man will come get me when the time is here and he'll be coming here with more or less empty suitcases so I can fill them with my stuff. We're planning on having two check-in bags each with my stuff, but at this point I've come so far in the decision on what to bring and not to bring that I won't even use that much space. Three bags at the most.

And there are a few things I'll leave behind in Sweden that I don't need but that I still want to keep for memories, those things will be picked up later when we go back to visit Sweden.

IIRC.....extra luggage from Kyiv is $50 if it is not overweight 26kg. So for $300 you could fly with 6 large boxes......Check with the airlines, you might be surprised as long as you are not shipping grandma's piano

20 suitcases is WAY too many clothes to bring. Holy moly. I think I have maybe two suitcases of clothes total and one of shoes. But everyone has different hobbies.

Sounds like she loves to shop! I hope you have big closets. ;)
