when calling Uscis question

When I call Uscis, does the person who answers have access to information about the case? It seems like the lady I talked to didn't know much about the case. Just the date received and "normal processing times". But would she be able to see if there was an issue with the case?

No. Calling the "misinformation line" (it's called that for a reason) will not yield results. You can try to get the call transferred to Tier 2, they are sometimes more helpful.

Is something wrong with your case.

the phones are answered by a firm farmed out to field calls

you can ask to speak to 2nd tier and get an actual immigration officer

they still can't tell you much about your personal case only can say working on the documents to see if all are there or doing an investigaiton

the updates on USCIS site or NVC site don't tell much

ours still says ready for interview and he got visa and is here in US for over 6 months now

Well, we are at day 84 on the AP timeline. My in laws want to go take care of some stuff in their home country and visit family for the summer, we have had the return tickets for a long while now and its just so expensive to change. I know its supposed to take 90 days, I just haven't heard anything from Uscis and i wondered if maybe we missed some notification or something. I see a lot of people who applied after us and who got RFIE have already gotten their documents so I am a little worried.I called and the lady said its within normal processing times and to call back in a week.

I am not complaining, just trying to avoid the financial hit

Some say an RFE re-sets the clock. I'm inclined to believe that it at least adds that much time to processing as it took to reach you in the first place, for you to answer it, and for them to review it.

Yea I think your right EM. It took the notice a couple weeks to get to us because they sent it to the wrong address. either way, we should be closing in on the approval date, but who knows. maybe our IO went on vacation or something.Do you have any Idea how long after AP the interview is? or is that dependent on the local office?

So this is interesting. About 4 hours after calling Uscis and asking if there was anything we could do, the status online changed to "card being produced". I have no idea if this is a coincidence or not. I do know that sometimes computers need a little "push" especially antiquated software systems. So maybe it helped maybe its coincidence. Just thought people should know.
