Requesting a Police clearance letter remotely (urgent!!)

Hi guys,

I'm hoping that someone in here can help me! I'm a beneficiary from Trinidad and I'm awaiting my NOA2 for the I-129F petition with my American fiance.

I attended Ryerson University in Toronto from 2006-2010 and, well, I've just realized that I need a canadian clearance letter.

I have spent a bit of time researching and I have NO idea how to get this thing. I've called the toronto police dept. and not only did they say there's a little wait until pickup, but I have to be there in person to present my valid id's.

Is there a way to request this remotely? (i'm at home in trinidad). I read on a post that fingerprints aren't necessary at this stage (I dont have a record) but it seems that requesting a police check remotely requires very expensive fingerprints......it almost makes sense to fly to toronto for a weekend and go in to the police department myself...

ANY guidance on this will be appreciated as my fiance and I are expecting NOA2 in the next few weeks and I am hoping for no setbacks....

I can tell you what I did, although it was some time ago now. I am a Canadian who at the time was resident in Auckland NZ.

I found an online website in Canada, and for a fee, they ran the check for me. I went to the Auckland Central Police Department and had ink fingerprints done. They did fingerprints one a week, and I didn't need an appointment for that. They had the appropriate paperwork, which they filled in and gave me, and that part was done at no cost. I sent those off, with a bank draft which I think was for $50 Canadian, they ran the prints for me on their end with the RCMP, and sent the results back. It took about 6 weeks back then, but I understand they have new digital technology that is a lot quicker.

So, it is possible. I would start by asking at the Police department where you are located. While this is not, from memory, the website I used, you can email these people and see if they can advise you.

As well, there is an office of the High Commission of Canada for Trinidad and Tobago, and perhaps they can offer advice. Here is a link that gives you the contact details, emails, phone and Fax numbers.

Good luck and I hope this helps! :)

Edited to add: I've just run a quick google search, there are quite a few online websites that do these checks. Have a hunt :)

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Thank you SO MUCH!

I have been frantically discussing this with my fiance in Houston....I am visiting him in 4 weeks and wondering if I can have the digital prints done and sent off in the US during my visit. Hopefully there is no implications for the fact that i'm not doing it in my home country? Can you advise?

I would not even bother using our local police service as I'm sure they do ink prints and will forget to send the prints out to Canada for months.......

Good idea to call the local Canadian embassy....I'll be calling them!!

They don't send the prints to Canada, you do, or at least you did, so they don't have to forget :)

I don't think it matters where you have them done, you are trying to prove you are without a record, in Canada. I would check that though, I did this so long ago, they didn't have the digital option.

Mine came back sooner than I'd planned on, and we got held up in AP at NVC, so I emailed the Auckland Consulate to ask if I would have to do them all over again. They said as long as I stayed out of Canada, lol, they would honor them past the 6 months they were good for at the time.

Good luck, I hope this was a help :)
