Hi all. I just want to share that we got case complete from NVC and a letter with instructions and an interview date for July1. We are excited and scared at the same time. This is our second time...we had our K1 denied and now this is for our CR-1. Lagos is a tough embassy. I'm praying and trying to relax and put it in God's hands for favorable results. This journey started April 2010.

why were you denied k1? was it dowry?offering? any red flags? dont think any embassy is "tough" if your not a geneuine couple who prepared well

After an interview that seemed to go very well, he just said he was not convinced it was a bona fide relationship. Nothing else, no reason. But we had front loaded hundreds of phone calls, emails, and chats. Provided photos and boarding passes. Documented the months I've been there and showed a relationship that spanned almost two years and an engagement that was not rushed into until we had known each other well. Then he said for us to get married and file again. No other reason was given. There are many "genuine" couples who have been denied and many of them are here on visa journey. And yes, there are tough embassies even for genuine couples. People here can tell you about their own experiences that testify to that.

Sometimes you can't win. I've seen people denied because they had a long courtship that was considered "unusual" and "not the way things are usually done" in the beneficiary's country (completely ignoring that one half of the couple is a US citizen and if they are planning to live together in the USA they are more likely to lean towards the American way of doing things in their relationship and long courtships are not uncommon in western countries). And then you see people denied because the courtship is too short.

The very fact that you are in an inter-continental marriage or relationship shows that you don't always do things the "normal" way.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Congrats TJ and JR on case complete !

I totally agree with your post, many genuine couples get denied at high fraud and tough embassies.

Our journey took 5 years and I know how you feel but I am sure you will be ok this time around and wish you the

very best ! Currently Nigeria is a bit better than it was several years ago and more people get through the first time and Ghana

has become the tougher one.
