I-485 form filing payment question

I am currently in the US, my daughter and I came here on a K1 visa, I married my fiancé and filed to adjust status but the paperwork came back denied saying "incorrect payment amount".

Before we mailed the paperwork we called USCIS and specifically asked if my daughter and I can pay together and we were told yes.

We used money orders from the post office and the max amount is 1000 dollars so we had to break it down in 1000 and 705, the total is 1705 dollars for both of us. My daughter is 10 years old.

Could that be the issue? Because it wasn't ONE money order for the entire amount?

Or because it wasn't the exact amount for me and a separate one for my daughter?

Thank you

You need to have one check for both of you and not two different checks so that it is easier when you are filing together.

Upon looking at this a little further I believe that it is because you did not include the exact amount for you, but you included it on your daughter's check.

The split amount seems to be the reason for rejection, since none of the splits would match to anyone's fee. So you might wanna just cancel those money order, get the money back and redo individual orders of 1070 and 635. USCIS people didn't wanna do the mathematics....
