Timeline

With regards to the SSN, just go to the Social Security Administration office that serves your area with your passport (with the immigrant visa) and request one. See https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ for more information (scroll down to How To Get A New, Replacement Or Corrected Card).

No problem. Btw, since, according to your profile, you live in NYC I'm guessing that the SSA employee will know that your visa serves a temporary green card, but be prepared to point that out if necessary -- at the office in WV where I went to I had to point out the annotation that states that since the employee was looking up I (media) visas instead of treating the visa as a temporary I-551 (i.e., green card).
