Adjustment of Status from F1 to IR1 - with DUI on record.

Hello everyone.

So I just have some questions about what to expect. Here's what's happened so far: I entered the US in 2013 on an F1 visa, during my studies I got a DUI (i was very unfamiliar with the law and how serious it was here). Then I got married to my boyfriend a year later. In September 2015 we filed for adjustment of status, hired an immigration attorney and everything. I got my work permit within 2 months, and I gave my biometrics. I am still waiting for the interview notice!! It's been almost 9 months since we filed, and I still haven't gotten my interview notice. The office I filed with had a 2 month general delay - so they were behinds on all applications by 2 months. But now, even that taken into consideration, they're delayed with my application by a couple weeks or so. My attorney thinks it might be because they are doing additional background checks because of the DUI possibly. I called USCIS and did a "service request" one week ago. Still waiting to see what's going to happen.

My questions are:

1. If they are doing additional background checks, how long does that typically take?

2. If they are doing additional background checks, when did they start doing that? That is, I filed in September, so is that when they started the additional background check? Do they figure out immediately that they need to do background checks, or when do they start doing those checks? I am trying to calculate when they may have started these additional background checks, so that I can figure out how far along they may have come, hence how close I am to receiving the interview notice.

Anyone with any knowledge please let me in on it. I would really appreciate any responses from attorneys as well. Anything else you want to tell me that I should expect is welcome as well.

THANKS!!!!
