Hello all,

Well, our CR1 was preliminarily approved. I will mail in the last document next Friday, so with a little good luck for a change, we will have her Passport with Visa in hand by the end of the month. Which means I want to start preparing for the next step. I live in China, and we processed the Visa via DCF.

We plan to go to the US June 30-July 18th for a vacation and so she can meet my extended family. That leads me to my first question. I live an hour north of Detroit, so normally I fly into Detroit Metro airport, but, I want to go to Las Vegas during this trip. I have never been there, and one of my cousins lives out near there. So we want to do 3 nights in Vegas. Would it be a bad idea for me to make our POE out in Las Vegas or if no direct flights, I can us L.A.? I am worried when she does the short (long?) interview at POE that they will wonder why we are not going directly to Detroit.

Second. After POE, it usually takes 2-3 weeks to get GC. We may or may not have left by then. I am not worried about it so much, because the Visa is a 1 year temp GC. My contract in China ends December this year, then we will be moving back to the U.S. permanently. Anyway, what else do I need to do at POE? Is that when I apply for a SSN? I already filled out on one form that she needs a SSN, but I am not convinced that is enough to get it done.

I will keep searching for answers, my main issue is that each page on this site takes 1-2 minutes literally to load up. Chinese internet FTW. :)

Thanks for any input.

Jon

She can enter the country wherever she likes. It doesn't have to be Detroit. It can be wherever you get the cheapest flight, where your friend lives, where you want to go on holiday.... Makes no difference. Some airports are busier than others so you might want to look through some of the POE reviews on this site to get a feel for how long it took people to get through - this will be helpful when purchasing tickets and looking at connection times.

Congratulations!
