Working right after entry on CR-1

I understand that immigrnat visa turns into a green card when stamped at the border and can be used for re-entry before the actual card arrives... but does it authorize an immigrant to work?

My husband is moving this summer, and I read here it may take up to 6 months to get an actual card. I'm worried some places may not like his stamped visa and will not believe he is a legal immigrant and a resident.

Also, when does the form I-9 come into play?

He can work the same day. Read over the I-9, which is the form for proving you can work. Endorsed immigrant visa is one of the documents.

I got a job three weeks after entering the US. All they needed was my passport with the stamped visa and my SSN for salary and background check. Your husband's visa will say that it acts as a temporary green card for up to a year.

Not all the time, it took 2 months for my husband to receive his SS number

This is a good question, because my husband just passed the New York Nursing board but we're still waiting for CASE COMPLETE at NVC. I'm hoping we can get through this so we can start our life as one ASAP

Check out my timeline, my card and SS card came rather quickly.

BUT your stamp in the passport is the same thing as a green card. Some folks won't understand that so bringing documentation that explains that would be a good idea if needing to provide work authorization proof to a potential employer.

Perfectly fine, my husband had a job days after arriving and all you need is proof of applying for SSN in order to work.

Good for you guys, but it can vary depending on the port of entry and maybe even the stars that day. Ours took 3 months or so.
