If he makes enough for a household of 2, himself and the immigrant, then yes. He would need to provide proof of the SS income with a letter from the SSA, SSA1099, and 12 months of bank statements to show how much he receives each month. The bank statements help prove non-taxable income sources such as SS benefits.

SS is not necessarily non-taxable. My mom pays federal tax on hers...But she also has a pension and I think if you have an income coming in from two different places SS can be taxed. If I am understanding OP post than the potential sponsor also has a job? I don't know a little confused with what he is asking.

It can be taxed, but very often is not. My mother also has a retirement pension from her job plus receives SS. Her SS is not taxed.

I was just explaining what documentation would be needed for non-taxable income sources.

Lol I was just digging to see if you had to prove taxable or non taxable income ? I was going to have to get more documents from my mom. Question though if the cosponsor makes over the federal guidlines they do not have to send bank statements right? Or a letter from the bank about the account? I think I have to send my bank into because I don't make enough but me and my cosponsor make well over for 4 people.

Non-taxable income can be more tricky to prove, and sometimes people earn enough, but have not filed taxes because of it. If employed, you simply use letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs to prove income amount.

I believe you are asking about the I-134 for the K-1 visa and not the I-864 for AOS that is being discussed in this topic. You do not need a letter from the bank or bank statements for the I-134 if your income meets the requirement. There is no combining incomes with the I-134. The co-sponsor needs to make enough for their own household size plus the foreign fiance(e).

untaxable SS can be claimed for sponsorship

fill out rhe IRS notice 703 (worksheet) line B will be half the SS benifits

add to any pensions you receive2. I receive

this total amount can be used by a letter explaining I 864 Supplement

RE: Form I 864 Part 6 Sponsors Income and Employment Additional Explanation

1. Write sponsors name saying " I am using my social security income to qualify as sponsor."

2. I receive benefit under Title II of the Social Security Act, see 233.{42 USC 423, and there are not federal means-tested public benefits.

3. I do have other income that I file tax on, for that purpose my social security income is not taxable (see attached notice 703)

and sign the letter
