My wife finally got to come to the us from Russia,, we arrived in LasVegas together and she was processed no problem.
We came home to Ca and soon we received her SS Card in the mail. No Restrictions,, the card looks exactly like mine (American born)
She had a family emergency and had to fly back to Russia,, while over there she noticed that her American Visa (inserted in her Russian passport) was expired,, I guess its only valid for a year?
Also its been 4 months since she came into USA and we have not received anything else like the green card,,,,? i think thats what we are waiting for.

I cannot get ahold of any agency always a busy number.

Can she fly back into us on that expired us visa? because she has SS# and card?,, seems strange to have it expire so quick,, she didn't get to fly here right away after she received it,, so time was ticking.

She is ready to come back to USA but how can she now? she is stuck again and i don't know how to get her back.

Please can anyone help us find solution ?
Thank YOU ALL Cody

hi

question, did you pay for the physical green card? did you pay the $165 that the GC costs?

you might be confused, the visa is valid for 6 months to enter the country

when she was processed her passport should have been stamped with the i551 temporary stamp valid for 1 year upon entering the country, that serves to live, work and travel until the physical GC arrives in the mail

so yes, she can return because she has the stamp in her passport

I551 stamp should be good for a year.

Did you pay the fee for the GC?

OK HERE is what here US VISA says now:

IV issue date: 22APR2015

IV Expires on 20OCT2015

then at bottom it says: "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR"

so the endorsement is here signiture? or?

Her immigrant visa, once endorsed and stamped by CBP upon her initial entry, serves as temporary evidence of LPR status for one year. She can use it to work and travel until that year expires, and after that needs to have her plastic green card.

Just to add to the above post, the pne year starts from the day immigrant enters the US. So if it has been less than 1 year since your wife entered US, she should be able to enter USA.

HI guys

I'm a lawful permanent resident and entered the USA 4 weeks ago. I paid the GC fee of $165 before I entered the US and have the confirmation number. I'm going on week 5 now and still no green card. Called 1 800-375-5283 but can't get a hold of anyone to speak to. How can I find out the status of my GC ?

3 weeks ago, I went ahead and applied for SSN and got the card 2 weeks later. i'm looking for work but can't do anything without the green card. any suggestions ?

That 'status' is useless for all practical purposes. Will keep returning error thru the months leading up to the GC mailing.

Yeah, so my point is, updates begin only when you know the card is on its way. That's what happened to me.

We got a "card was picked up by the US postal service" update on ELIS, then 2 days later "Card was delivered by the postal service".
