Address Question - When is it safe to move?

Hi,

I am hoping some of you can provide some guidance.

Background:

Right now I am living with my parents, and I have been for a long time. (We get along well, and I was just saving money.)

I have not filed the I-129F or G-325A yet as we are working on putting the remaining documents together. I put my current address, where my parents and I live. I was planning on getting an apartment after she received the K-1 Visa, but I would like to keep the option of buying a house or condo sometime during the filing process. (I'm a little weary of buying a house/condo without my her, because I want her opinion.)

Questions.

1. Is it safe to change addresses after she receives the K-1 Visa? Then on the AOS it would have a new address?

2. Is it safe to change addresses before she receives the K-1 Visa, and just let my parents receive the mail? I would then pick it up, and then use the new address on the AOS.

3. Any other information would help helpful!

I want to avoid telling them that I changed addresses, because I don't want it to slow down the process. If I need to just wait, then I can.

Thanks in advance!!!

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

3. Don't ever presume the granting of the visa.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Keep parents address as it is safer , once you get to the AOS part you can use different address

Since you haven't started the process at all yet I suggest you get the approval from interview or atleast the NOA2 first before making big jumps

I concur with the previous posts. Yes, Yes and do not assume.

As long as someone responsible is there to receive your mail and you are able to get it from them, then you're good. Those documents that will be sent to you are extremely important and necessary in other steps of the immigration process so make sure they don't get lost. They are expensive to replace.

My hubby used his parents California address during K1 since he didn't know where he will be stationed yet. Then we used a different address for AOS since he got assigned to North Carolina where we stayed for a while. Had no issues.

We bought a house after getting married and so had to change the address after applying for AOS. We setup mail forwarding from our old address too (for 6 months). We only moved around 15 minutes drive from where we'd been living.

The address change with USCIS worked fine - I've had mail from them to the new address, including my greencard.
