Hello, it has been awhile since I have been here. I am trying to find some information about adopting my wife's boys. Doing various insurance and inheritance planning and decided we need to get the ball rolling on adoption. Their biological father has not been around/involved since we asked him to sign paperwork allowing the boys to leave Ukraine. I know I recalled reading about others having experience adopting their wife's children from Ukraine. Any information is helpful and appreciated.

we have a similar situation. My son is turning 13 yo soon. His biological father has not been seen since he was 2 months old. Also on his birth certificate there is no father's name. My husband, a US citizen, would like to adopt him. Anyone cld help advice on the process of adoption. Tq

The same advice above applies. The procedure for a step-parent to adopt their step-child varies by state.

Likely you will need the natural parent's consent and for them to agree to terminate their parental rights. Failing that, you may be able to serve them via publication if their current whereabouts are unknown.

You may also be able to ask a family court judge to terminate their parental rights involuntarily. This is usually only done in unusual cases where the natural parent will not agree to terminate their rights but you can demonstrate it will be in the best interests of the child to do so.

You should consult with a reputable family law attorney in your state to get advice relevant to your jurisdiction.
