USPS Mail Hold Service

We recently filed for my husband's AOS from an F-1 student visa in October. We have not received any RFEs and our case is ready to be scheduled for an interview. We will be traveling for a little over a month during the holidays and I want to place our mail on hold. There's a chance we'll receive his EAD/AP just prior to our departure (all travel is domestic so no worries there). I've read that USCIS does not allow their documents to get forwarded. 1. Is this true? 2. Do USCIS documents get held like any other mail or would they get returned?

I'm going to try and delay the mail hold to begin about a week after we depart because we live in an apartment and our mailbox is locked so I know it's secure. I'm just concerned that if USCIS sends any mail correspondence like for interview scheduling, etc. that the mail hold might interfere. Although, I believe our attorney receives copies of the same documents we receive.

Thoughts?

I wrote a full detailed account of our AOS process, timeline, AP use, and interview on my blog. You can read it here.

Call local USPS branch. The hold just means they keep it. When I would go home for holidays I'd do mail holds all the time. They just reeliver it all later. Whether this is different for the no forwarding action, not sure but I'd doubt it.

Filed: IR-1/CR-1 Visa Country: Pakistan
Timeline

I was out of the country visiting my husband when my interview notice came - the day after I left!! I had my mail on hold and it was fine. It was delivered with the rest of the held mail when I returned home. I don't think you will have any problem.
