CR-1 : medical records or vaccination records?

Hi there!

New here, first post :)

I have recently received my case number after our I-130 petition was approved.

I will be submitting a visa application to the Immigrant Visa Unit in London.

My question is this: do I have to provide full medical records or just vaccination records? On this page http://london.usembassy.gov/iv/medical_examination.htmlit seems to suggest just vaccination records will be required. I have the form from my GP surgery so just need to be sure what to request!

Thanks for any advice!

Ms London Welsh :)

- Country-specific thread moved from IR-1 Process to UK regional subforum -

- Requirements for medical exams vary from country to country, Knightsbridge Doctors is discussed in the UK forum -

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".

Thanks Elf for moving the question to a more appropriate place, I will get the hang of the boards!

Welcome to VJ! It's not so much about getting the hang of the boards as about knowing which questions are generic to your particular immigration path and which tend to vary depending on which country you're in/which consulate/embassy you're going through.

If you have any serious chronic/ongoing conditions I'd suggest perhaps bringing along a letter from your doctor/specialist explaining the diagnosis, treatment and likely progression, but yes, other than that vaccination records are enough.

There's a huge thread in the UK subforum about medicals at Knightsbridge Doctors, if you want to read several years-worth of other people's experiences :)

The doctors at Knightsbridge will likely need more information from your GP if you have had some serious condition or for example take medications. So of you have had cancer, diabetes, polio, asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, etc, etc, etc then they may ask for a report from you doctor detailing the diagnosis, treatment, resolved or not....

It is not your actual medical records, but a written summary description by your doctor. Many people who know they have had such a condition, get a report in advance to take with them. It doesn't mean you won't be approved for a visa. It means the doctore wants to know more information than he can learn from examining you for 15 minutes.

Thanks lots!

I do have ongoing things - IBS, anxiety and EDS Type 3! But none of them require/are receiving medical treatment/medication and I've never been hospitalised with any of them, so they're not serious in that sense... also they're not going to show up in my bloodwork. They're also not degenerative, with the exception of EDS III which can be, and obviously not contagious. Maybe I can ask my doctor for a letter which says that they're not likely to cause problems?

Thanks for the tips :)

Great, thanks Nich-Nick. Not had any of the things you mention other than depression/anxiety, which I've had CBT for in the past but is pretty much home-managed and hasn't effected things like work/family life etc. I can ask my GP to attest to this.

One other thing you might know about - on the form, when it asks if you've ever been hospitalised, does it mean literally ever? I was hospitalised for a misdiagnosed abscess when I was about 12yo, and was in for 5 days while they sorted that out... do I need to mention this?! Seems strange to me but don't want to leave it out if I should say!

If you mention it, they will discuss it with you, but not necessarily need a report from your doctor about it. If you don't mention it, then they have no way of knowing it happened as they can't access your records. You will also fill out a different questionnaire upon arrival at the clinic.

Forgot to mention that they will also want to see your police report to check it for any issues with drugs or drunken disorderly behavior so they can further assess whether you have any substance addiction behaviors. On drugs, they will definitely question you on any use or experimentation ever. If you say, "yes one time on my birthday ten years ago" then they will add a drug urine screening to your exam and note drug use on your report.

Thank you, all really helpful stuff!

Is the form they give you at the medical interview much more in-depth than the short one I already have to fill in?

Also- I read a thread on here about fiance visas and how it's much better to get the vaccinations you require before the medical exam - I'm assuming this is the same for spouse visas and I will need extra vaccinations than those I've already had as I've not had any since school. So I do get my vax records from my GP, get any additional vaxes I need from my GP if possible, then get my records updated (or a letter attached to the original records request?) and take the updated records along to the medical interview?

Questions questions! ;)

K1s have the option of waiting until they apply for a greencard to get their vaccinations, but they will pay another doctor in the US to sign them off if they wait. Your visa is doing all the vetting for a greencard now so you MUST be cleared on shots at your visa medical. Look at the top of this UK forum at the K1 Guide for London. The first post names the shots required for an adult. Don't forget the flu shot. 'Tis the season. Get what you can free from your GP if needed. Some won't give flu shots so go to Boots or a grocery clinic and get written proof to show at Knightsbridge. They will compile your records from various sources. It doesn't all have to be on one paper from the GP. That's what they do at the medical...put it all on one form.

In that K1 Guide there is a whole post about the medical you might want to browse. It is basically the same medical for you. It might have more info.

Getting missing vaccinations from your GP is preferable because if you get them at the medical there'll be a charge for each one. (Welcome to US-style health care...)

You may not need many vaccinations. Assuming you're somewhere between 18 and 65, I think the only vaccines considered age-appropriate are TDap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis), MMR, Varicella and Flu if your medical falls within flu season.

Here's some info from the State Dept on immigration medicals at Knightsbridge Doctors.

If you have had chicken pox they just take your word for it. Unless you are a pregnant woman you probably won't be given the pertussis vaccine. More likely the diptheria tetanus polio booster. And I quoted the NHS choices website recommending all adults get the MMR as I'm 40 it wasn't offered when I was a child plus I would have needed a booster anyway. I received 2 doses 3 weeks apart. The Flu Jab I got at Super drug where they gave me a basic proof to show Knightsbridge. Any medical conditions ask your Dr receptionist to write a brief summary and for any depression based illness ask them to write "never any harm to themselves or others" (presuming that was never diagnosed - if so stating your now fine, etc). It saves any delays going prepared. The longer form just covers the same ground but worded slightly different.

Thanks very much for your replies, really useful information!

I have the form in front of me for medical records information request from my GP- it asks who it needs to be addressed to, I'm assuming that would be myself and and then I would take it and the additional information including proof of new vaccines received? Wouldn't make much sense for it to be sent direct to them would it... I need to know after all ;)
