Hi Everyone,

We are in the middle of a very frustrating situation at the moment. My husband (beneficiary) has prepared his package for the NVC and I (petitioner) have prepared mine. Everything is ready to be sent off. However, my father is the joint sponsor on the case and we are waiting for his tax transcripts to arrive from the IRS. The big problem is that he requested an extension for 2014, and didn't file those taxes until October. We have now been waiting over a month for the transcripts to arrive and we still haven't gotten anything. I looked on the IRS website and it said that taxes that are e-filed usually process within six to eight weeks, and that the transcripts are usually available another four to six weeks after they have been processed. So if he filed his taxes in October and they take two months to process, then we are looking at the middle of December for them to finish processing, and then the middle or end of January for the transcripts to arrive. That, plus another MONTH to get Case Complete from the NVC and then who knows how long to get the interview scheduled, and we might be looking at another SIX months before we have any hope of getting the visa!!

My questions is, do you think it is sufficient to just send the 1040's from the last three tax years? My father is self employed, but with his financial support we are well over the minimum necessary to meet the financial requirements. My father does not feel comfortable sending the official transcripts overseas to us in Spain, so presenting them at the interview is not really an option for us. Does anyone have any advice. Has anyone gotten Case Complete and passed the interview with only the joint sponsors 1040's?

Obviously we are very anxious to be finished with this process. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Thanks!

There is no differencebetween the complete 1040 and all supporting documents and schedules (which a self employed person MUST submit) and the tax transcript. So either way Dad is sending all the info. Yes, you can send the complete 1040, all schedules, 1099's, etc. instead of waiting for the transcript. The income number they will use is line 22 of the 2014 form.

If he files a joint return then it would be wise to have his spouse complete the form I-864a.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the response. Neither of you got a checklist from the NVC for submitting 1040's and schedules as opposed to the tax transcripts? Did you have to bring official transcripts or the 1040s etc. of the joint sponsor to the interview?
