Thank you!

P.S. She received her Green Card just under two weeks ago and worked during the Summer so she will definitely be in the 2015 tax return.

If she had income during the year and it is above the threshold for filing taxes she must file. She might want to file even if she did not meet the income threshold as she might get a refund.

As I am typing this I am wondering why you didn't file jointly. Were you married to her on Dec 31, 2014?

You will want to file a JOINT tax return for 2015 and include any of her income on the F1040.

Filing of joint returns will also go along way in proving that you have a bonafide relationship when it comes time to adjust status.

Hey there, amigos.

No, she arrived on a K1 Visa and we got married on February 3rd though I filed before she arrived. I was just suddenly concerned that maybe she needed to file a 2014 tax return of her own as single?

I think the confusion lies with you said she arrived in 2014 but your timeline says 2015. If she was not even in the U.S. Or married to you between Jan 1-Dec 31, 2014 then she has no tax obligation for 2014. You filed your 2014 early in 2015 as single.

She was married to you in 2015 so you will file jointly with her, a 2015 return covering Jan 1-Dec 31, 2015. Note just because you do the filing after the first of the year, that is not called a 2016 tax return. It is about what happened in 2015.
