Hello,My name is Angel,i have been in the US for about 7 months now,i came on k1 visa and we got married same month,my husband became abusive and he would use my immigration status to make me do everything he wanted.he then filled for a divorce when i started attending counselling,i got an interview date with for the adjustment of status which i did not attend because that would be against the law,i wrote a letter to immigration to let them know i would be unable to attend.i got a letter saying my husband withdraw my case,my question is what will happen next after this? and iam suppost to meet a lawyer at the non profit immigration on 1st december so iam worried i might get deportation letter before she files for my vawa case. How long does it take to get a deportation letter? and will it matter that iam in the process of applying for vawa case?

- Moved from Introducing Our Members to Effects Of Major Family Changes, where this sort of situation is usually discussed -

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".

You are mistaken; OP would not file for asylum.

They may or may not have a VAWA case, but more details would be needed.

in this situation u can file asylum for stay in us,,

That is incorrect.

Asylum is for those who are persecuted in their home country, not for spousal abuse

Asylum from what? Please do not file for asylum. Be sure to gather proof of abuses, proof that marriage was bonafide,

affidavits from those who witness the abuse, whatever money was comingled together, proof of the marriage counseling

you attempted, lease or utility bills if there was any at the same address, and file VAWA because abuse & immigration

threats are at times VAWA eligible

Thank you so much friends,i successfully finished my counselling last week.My marriage was bonafide i just hope and pray everything i have is enough,my husband never put my name in anything and when we got married he had his own house so we do not have joint account or lease,he never allowed me to leave the house or even go for a walk outside.i only have a car insurance that he added me to,thats all,the rest even medical cover he used to say he will add me once he is stable financially as he could not afford to add anything to his bills.I have chats, pictures of before and after and yes his best friend and one more of his friend will write me an affidavit as those are the only people i was allowed to meet while i was with him.Another question, can the government make him help me financially? atleast until iam able to get a job? i have been staying with his friends who buy me everything including sanitary towels,im just lost, ashamed and yes i know iam a burden to them.

Document every abuse you can - any bruises, any policy reports of when you called them because he hit you, go to a shelter for abused women and see if there is a program. You will need every and anything you can get your hands one.

Sorry for the experience.
