Republic of Ireland K1 application sent to London

Hi,

My fiancée and I have been working through the K1 visa process for the past few months, and things has been progressing well, up until this week.

My fiancée (the petitioner) received a letter Monday from the NVC that they had forwarded our case to the US Embassy in London. The problem being that I am a citizen and resident of the Republic of Ireland. We specified the embassy in Dublin in our I-129F as where the case should be forwarded to.

My fiancée called the NVC yesterday to enquire why our case was going to London, but they didn't provide any information and just told her to contact the embassy for any information.

We can't call the embassies today with the holiday, but we would like to know as soon a possible if a mistake has been made so it can be corrected, or whether this is a standard or common occurrence.

Anyone here have anything similar happen when applying from Ireland?

This may be a weird question but how close to the boarder towns are you. Because I know that some of the 6 northern countries have been sent to London for their interview. But if you are in the republic I don't see why you were sent there unless by mistake.

The other question I would ask is can you make it to London? If it goes back to the nvc it could take ages. But if you're willing to wait for the dublin interview that you should contact London first and then Dublin

The other question I would ask is can you make it to London? If it goes back to the nvc it could take ages. But if you're willing to wait for the dublin interview that you should contact London first and then Dublin

I'm actually right down in the south-east in county Waterford

I could make it to London, it's an extra expense and stress but if it was the best option, I'd go with it.

Right now we just want to figure out what's going on so we can plan.

Ringing the london embassy and the irish one might be the best option. That is weird that you're not close to the boarder and they still sent it to london. I know the irish embassy is really easy to get a hold of through their website. Hopefully you get it all sorted out soon.

Definitely not normal practice for Ireland residents. We went through dublin. I would ring London embassy tomorrow see what they say and then ring dublin based on what london says. As others have said depending what the embassies say it may be quicker and best to go through London unless getting the visa issued in London would become problematic. Fortunately it could be sent from London and received in dublin very quickly.

Thanks for the advice all, I emailed the Dublin & London embassies yesterday and received a call from the Dublin embassy in the evening.

They said it must have been a mistake, and that they would contact London to have our case transferred. They told me it shouldn't take longer than a week.

As I said to the lady at the embassy, it feels like a load off my shoulders.

All the six northern counties get sent to London for interview. Not some of them. Because they are a separate country called Northern Ireland and are part of the UK.

You are right though there was definitely a mistake.

Yep. Happened with my husband's conditional green card. It stated he was from Ireland. We didn't bother to send it back for the correction. Laughable though.
